My Women’s Day

[JUSTIFY]
I had never seen my husband’s face look so distraught and I felt a stab of guilt for having caused it. I was sitting across him holding a lovely red rose and a rose made of tissue paper in my hand. Seeing the pain in his eyes made me mentally kick myself for having done that to him. “I got roses!! Some people remember to appreciate, you know!” I had lightly teased him, but seeing that he had taken it to heart made me feel awful.

I quickly explained that the real red rose was from the school (where I volunteered to teach children with learning disability once a week) and the tissue rose was from a colleague who had made it for few of the women in the office when he came to know that it was Women’s Day. “So, none of it is personal and I was only teasing!” I pleaded again. He nodded understanding but I saw that he was really upset. I spent some time trying to cheer him up but to no avail. There was nothing more to be done and we had our jobs to get back to, so we went our ways.

That evening my husband bought a lovely set of chrome chain and earrings for me and a bar of chocolate each for my kids, me, and my mother-in-law. “Sorry! I should have remembered and should have been the first to have wished you,” he said earnestly. It totally didn’t matter but it meant the whole universe all at the same time:-D
