we have started from chennai on Friday night 11pm by Karaikal Express,
We booked our tickets upto Kumbakonam. We get down at kumbakonam by 5:50am in the morning.
Just came out of the station, there is a bus outside the railway station which is going through kumbakonam busstand, the fare is Just Rs.5,
we reached busstand in the next 5 mins. There we started looking for rooms to stay, there are so many budget rooms available near busstand,we enquired there for a room with double bed, some where they told its around 400rs.
There are lodges such as HFM,MK near busstand where rooms are available for 300 to 350 rs.
we booked one such non ac room with a tv and double bed with attached bath in M.K lodge, just check the room bathroom conditions before u check in,if it is not good, ask them to clean, otherwise the room is good to stay.
We went to our room by 6:30,took bath and we had our coffee at a shop nearby the lodge and started to thirumanacheri.
We went to Kumbakonam busstand and took a bus which is going to Mayiladuthurai,we bought tickets upto Kuthalam which is next to aduthurai.we get down at kuthalam, there taxi people are coming and rounding us and saying ,If u r going for marriage pooja,no pooja items available at the temple,no buses to the temple,u have to come by can like that.they r demanding 100 rs for pickup and drop from kuthalam to thirumancheri and the pooja item set is around 150 rs here.but the garlands are good here at this place.
we didnt listen to them, just walked backwards of the busstop, where there are mini buses to Thirumanacheri where the ticket tost is just 5 rs,but they are plying once in a hour,we sat on the bus by 9 am, they started the bus by 9:30am,we reached the temple before 10 am, there in the outside of the temple the pooja item set is around 75 rs.We just entered the temple and bought the pooja set there for 40 rs,which contains two coconuts, two garlands, turemeric, kumkum in a bag,These garlands are very small only. But anyway the garlands are exchanged at the god's feet so no need to worry.
Then we bought 5 gheelamps for 10rs at the next counter, which is to be lighted before the pooja, then in the next counter for the marriage pooja archana ticket costs rs.15 is bought, then we entered the temple praying to Lord Ganapathi, then entered the marriage prayer hall let to the vinayagar sanctum, there we have play to light lamps before kalyanasundareswarar.then we have to wait in a queue, since one batch of people is doing the pooja, once their pooja is over, the place is cleaned, the next batch people are allowed to sit inside ,
unmarried boys and unmarried girls are seated in a separate queue, and the married couples who came after the ir desire came true are allowed to sit on a separate queue.
Once we all are settled on the queue, the pooja item bag is collected from everybody, they started taking the garlands and submitting it in the feets of lord, breaking the cocounuts and keeping in the bag, then they have taken the garlands from the feets of lord and started distributing it to us,one garland was given to the unmarried girls and boys and we are asked to wear that. For married couples, they gave two garland asked the husband and wife to transfer their garlands. Then the pooja started with the mangala vadhyam, once the aarti is over we need to go and get the prasad from the priest and the kumkum should be used only by the people who are doing the pooja, they asked for money and collected 10rs while handing the pooja item bag back to us,they also gave one lemon, which we needt o drink the next day morning wihtout salt and sugar, once we came out people who have played the mangala vadhyam collected 10rs from everyone and then there is mangala rahu where we are asked to lit five ghee lamps again at the cost of Rs.10,we lgihted the lamps there and prayed to and god and came out of the temple.
From thirumanacheri, you need to go to kuthalam to reach anyother place. But the mini bus is not there.so we hired a taxi and paid rs.40 to stop at kuthalam.we reached kuthalam around 11:30 am,Then we took bus to kumbakonam again which costs rs.14 per person.we reached kumbakonam and we had our lunch there, after lunch we came back to our rooms by 1:30 pm, we take rest for some time and then got freshed up and started our journey again by 3pm.
our room and bus stand is very closer,so once we step out of the room and walk some 5 to 6 feet ,we can reach busstand.
Again we catched the minibus to thirunageshwaram where the ticket cost is just Rs.5 per person, we reached thiunageshwaram by 3:30 pm,the temple is closed at that time,so we were just roaming outside the temple watching the big tank surya pushkarni in the temple and also the huge gopuras and gardens in the temple.
By 4 pm,the temple opened,we went inside,we had a good darshan there.we just came out of the temple.Again to reach upiliappan temple, there are mini buses from nageshwaran temple entrance for just rs.3 since it is just 1km from nageshwaram temple. We hired an auto from thirunageshwaram temple and went to ayavadi prithyankara devi temple, that is little bit inside the village ayavadi, but the temple is very neat, calm and peaceful,we had a nice darshan there. From there we have went to upiliappan temple in the same auto and had a nice darshan there,we paid rs.60 for this up and down trip.
Then from there we got mini buses to kumbakonam from upiliappan temple entrance which is again rs.5 per person,we reached the busstand in next 10mins.then we catched the next minibus to swamimalai.we reached there aound 7 pm and had a nice darshan came out of the temple by 8 pm,catched the mini bus to kumbakonam reached there and had our dinner there and went to our room to take rest rest.
so we have covered the following temples on saturday.
    1.Thirumanacheri
    2.Thirunageshwaram
    3.Upiliappan temple
    4.Ayavadi-prithyankaradevi temple
    5.Swami malai

Our next day trip will be continued..

    Regards,
    Malu

Since the day was not that much hot,we didn't feel the heat in our room at night,Morning we waked up around 5:30am,and get ready for the trip, morning we vacated the room,we have only a small luggage like a bag for dresses and a handbag,so we handled the key at the room reception by 6:30 went out and had coffee and taken a mini bus by 7 am which is going to darasuram arivateeshwarar temple, the ticket cost is just 4rs.per person,we reached there in 10 to 15 mins.
Yesterday it was pradosham day and we visited so many shivan temples on that day. This darasuram temple is similar to thanjavur big temple which is very vast with good sculputures and it is a great example for construction work of cholas, the temple is identified by UNESCO as a heritage monument and it is maintained well with lawns where people are gatheringfor a chat and most people do walking over the lawn.
Since we reached there early nobody was there except the priest,we had a good darshan we roamed inside the temple till 8:30 am, then we came out and waiting for a bus to go to pattesswaram,
we went to patteswaram by catching a mini bus where the ticket cost is 3 rs.we reached the temple in 5mins.
We had a nice darshan of lordess durga and thenupureeshwarar with gnanambal, then we had the prasad from the temple and finished our breakfast there and started again to kumbakonam, where we got down at the adi kumbeswarar temple,we had a nice darshan of adi kumbeshwarar with managalambikai, then we went to ramar temple opp to this temple,we saw the mahamaham tank, then we went to someswarar temple and we just roam through the shops nearby the temples and purchased few things.
It was around 11.30am, we got bus from the tank and reached kumbakonam bus stand, there we got buses to alangudi,we have taken the private bus,in which the fare is rs.8 per person to alangudi from kumbakonam,
we reached alangudi around 12:15,the bus dropped us at the entrance of the temple where you will see a arch, but u need to walk for some 10 to 15 mins to reach the temple, we reached there around 12:30 and this is the temple we saw huge rush and people outside say told that the temple will be closed around 1 pm, so we got tickets in the 20 rs. queue and we reached inside fast within 5 mins..we had nice darshan of abayeshwarar and lord guru(jupiter) and we had our lunch in the guru temple govt annadhanam were we are served with rice, sambar, rasam, buttermilk, cabbage poriyal, pickle.
we feel very good of having a nice darshan and lunch at the guru temple,by the time when we finished our lunch and came out they started closing the temple,we came out, there are so many shops there outside the temple,we just had alook over there, had some juices and came back to busstand and catched the bus to kumbakonam,we reached there around 3:30pm,
we need to reach chennai by sunday night,so we catched a bus from kumbakonam busstand by 4pm its a ordinary setc bus where the ticket fare for one person is Rs.205,bus started around 4:30 pm,we reached chennai by 9:30 pm,
Over all the trip was very good, since the temples are not over crowded and we have frequent buses which is very cheap,we had nice darshan in all the temples.
We feel like a positive energy is spreaded throughout us after this trip.
I hope this will be useful to someone who is planning for a visit.

    Regards,
    Malu

We stayed in M.K Lodge near kumbakonam busstand..To cover temples in and around kumbakonam 2 days s sufficient,if you wnat to cover all the navagraha temples, then you would require 3 days.Kutralam falls is too far from kumbakonam. Its about more than 300 kms.
In thirumanacheri we did the pooja for marriage(there is a hoe that this pooja will remove any obstacles with respect to marriage, and we will get married soon)

    Regards,
    malu
