I hear my mother saying u wrote about my mother but you forgot about me who deliverd you. Why this partiality. So thought will write about her also.:)

They say the future of the child is always the work of a mother.

Noone can take the place of a mother. Like how Lord Krishna was born to Devaki but Yashoda brought him up. Same way my mother also delivered us but our grandmother only took care of us as my mother was very simple and she herself always wanted her mother to be her side.:bowdown

Those days they have undergone so many difficulties but they never used to grumble and lead the life peacefully. But now a days we have so much comfort but still we are not happy.

My mother and grandmother used to get up by <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:time Hour="5" Minute="0">5 a.m.</st1:time> , grandmother will do the cooking and mother will assist her. Early morning their cooking will be over.

After cooking and finishing the other work whole day my mother used to read lot of prayer books. If she has no work she will be reading the prayer book. While cooking also grandmother andmother will be chanting Lalitamba Shobanam or another prayers.

Those days we all used to eat together and my mother only used to serve us. We were never allowed to touch the food. My mother was very religious and used to follow madi. Even when we used to go for bath she will only put the clothes in the bathroom. We were not allowed to touch the clothes before taking bath. The clothes will be dried separately and noone was allowed to touch it.

Since I did not have anyone to look after my children while going to work my mother used to stay with me. My father died when I was 18 years old. Once I had to go to work on a Saturday. Then later we got a lady to assist my mother.

Everyday since my mother looks after the children and I go to work I thought of taking her also on one Saturday thinking I will leave her in my cousin’s place . She used to stay near my office.

That time my daughter was less than a year. So I took my daughter and mymother . We had to go by train. After reaching the station it started raining. When the train came my mother got into the train but I could not get into the train. Luckily I saw one lady and told her to look after my mother and let her get down at Dadar. I was very worried . Started praying to God. Due to rain the trains were delayed. My mother does not know hindi also. The lady whom I told was a malayalee andmy mother knew Malayalam. After missing one train I got the next train and by God;s grace when I got down I saw my mother sitting in a bench . That lady had told mymother u sit here only till your daughter comes. That day God only saved me..

When my daughter was 2 yrs 3 mths and my son was 6months daily my mother used to take them half way to the station in the evening. My husband used to come back that time from office and my mother used to come backwith him.

She died in the year 1978 during Diwali when my daughter was 2 yrs 5 mths and my son was 8 mths. In 1979 October I delivered a baby girl and I feel that my mother only has come back.

We have kept her name only for my daughter. Her name was Parvathy . But we call her Poornima.

Hope mummy you are happy now and bless me.

    Dear Viji,

Your word-picture about your mother took me back to the good old days of my childhood in Trichy. My heart was in my mouth when I read the bit about her boarding the train alone... Simple souls who were so contented with life, always cheerful and hard-working, no complaints... Mothers are special, aren't they? No one can take their place.

    Enjoyed it immensely,

    Padma

    Dearest Viji ,

Your narration is so good that I could visualize everything that you have written about. You are absolutely right about contentment. Now with all the luxuries around we miss out on those small things which give immense pleasure which no wealth can buy.

When I was a kid we used to stay in a naval colony coz my dad used to work with the Navy and most of your posts make me nostalgic about my childhood. We used to have so much fun living there with friends , neighbours with basic amenities and today miles away from my homeland with all amenities sometimes I wonder which lifestyle is better. That was a simple yet splendid lifestyle.

You mom would be so proud of you :thumbsup and of course all of us here at IL also love you a lot ..
