My Love

The mumbles around sang lullaby to me
I dozed off to the land of dreams
The kind that I will never be
For dreams are but colourful fantasy reams

The tele jingle woke me up to reality
Here was a call from my precious beloved
Who never dreams but lives in practicality
Right from the day we wed

He has never knelt with a rose
Or uttered any romantic words
From wherever he goes
Like all the other love birds

I missed all that romance
In the peak of my youth
Tested his tolerance
With a nagging mouth

How immature was I
To not understand
That the pie of my eye
Was worth an unlimited grand

His love for me has grown
From looks to deeds to concern
In thousand ways has he shown
That his love is very hard to earn

His love is very subtle
Not a thing to be exhibited
No empty words of rattle
No silly wish granted

But I can feel its weight
Increasing by the day
Majestic in its gait
Above every normal way

As he holds my hands
Leading me on rough roads
As he silently withstands
The burden of domestic loads

Not showing his anxiety
Patiently handling all the knots
In the best ways of propriety
Though they seem abnormal sorts

Our bondage is getting stronger
As my nest is empty
I only pray this lasts longer
And gets locked in safety

Safely in the love
That he pours
On our fruits of love
Much more than he shows behind closed doors

I seek nothing Lord
But grant me this eternal love
Until my last breath Oh God
For that’s the strength of this dove

That helps me bear all the pain
That life inflicts
On my body and brain
And face all the conflicts
