Oh yes! why not..

1. I suggest you try it out in a smaller tile. Mine is 1.5*1.5 ft tile. choose a smaller one.
2. If are good at painting use brush, else you get these paint in tubes with a small nozzle and its easier. just like how you use a mehandi cone.
3. use bronze metallic paints a lot, gives a nice antique finish and goes with almost all backgrounds.
4. decide a theme and take it from there.
5. using lot of kundan stones and mirrors look nice of wall when light reflects.

One last silly question...where do you buy the tiles from? IS ther any particular variety of tile which I need to ask for?

You can buy from any tile shop
you have this glossy granite finish ones and the anti-skid mat finish ones. Choose the one which is smooth enough to paint, textured ones are rough, so painting can't be done on that. Better opt for glossy type, looks good as well.
