Hi all, Long time no see.

In the last year I took up a new job moved 1,150 km away from home. From the city to a quite little country town. With tiny country towns come the problem of bad internet connection. Fingers crossed that it has now been resolved.

So back to the point. Around 3 weeks ago I started the Autoimmune Protocol to help with my skin issues.
This is not a fad diet for weight loss , it is an elimation diet to help heal my skin. Which mean though
I will not be eating certain foods, It will be reintroduced slowly. The purpose of this
diet is to find out if anything I eat is triggering my skin.

I started the diet on 28.09.2014.
In these few days i have noticed alot of differnces including
    - I lost 6kg so far - my intention wasnt to lose weight but removing sugars and processed foods
from ones diet will have that effect.
    - My skin is slightly better, but then again i need to focus on my actual skin care regime
    a bit more.
    - I am more organised in terms of food prep

There is still another week to go before I start reintorducing foods I have eliminated.
The first thing i will reintroduce is seed-spices. I need my cumin and coriander.
Cooking with just tumeric, garlic and ginger is getting very boring.

I will try and post everyday so I can keep a log of my progress.

On a side note - this is being done with the supervision of my dietician who knows
    my health conditions.

    What is the Autoimmune Protocol?

It is an elimination diet that helps heal the immune system and gut mucosa.
It aslso addresses the inflammation in the gut which causes Autoimmune Disease.

Why am I doing the Autoimmune Protocol?

I have psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that causes skin cells to grow
too quickly, resulting in thick white, silvery or red patches of skin. These scaly pathces
    can itch, and flake.

There is no cure for psoriasis as it is an autoimmune disease,

    What is an autoimmune disease?

It is a condition where the body cannot tell the differnce between healthy tissue and
foriegn invaders and a hypersensitive reaction occurs. The body starts self-tissue attack.
There are many types of autoimmune disorders including:

    • Addison's disease
    • Celiac disease - sprue (gluten-sensitive enteropathy)
    • Dermatomyositis
    • Graves' disease
    • Hashimoto's thyroiditis
    • Multiple sclerosis
    • Myasthenia gravis
    • Pernicious anemia
    • Reactive arthritis
    • Rheumatoid arthritis
    • Sjogren syndrome
    • Systemic lupus erythematosus
    • Type I diabetes

How does the AIP diet work?

The AIP diet works to reduce inflammation in the intestines and throughout the body.
It is geared toward healing the intestinal mucosa and supporting low inflammation in the body.
It is a dramatic way to address inflammation that has its begging roots in the gut.

    How long is it for?

They suggest anywhere from 4 weeks to 12 weeks of strictly following the protocol.

So what foods are not allowed?

Nuts (including nut oils like walnut and sesame seed oils)
Seeds (including flax, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and culinary herb seeds like cumin and coriander)

No vegetable oils (olive oil, lard, cultured ghee and coconut oils are permitted)
Culinary herbs from seeds (mustard, cumin, coriander, fennel, cardamom, fenugreek, caraway, nutmeg, dill seed)
    Tapicoa.

    So what is then allowed?

Fruits (limit to 15-20 grams fructose/day)
Coconut products including coconut oil, manna, creamed coconut, coconut aminos, canned coconut milk (with no additives like guar gum and carageen or bpa lined cans) shredded coconut (this list does not include coconut sugar and nectar)
