I current go to work and husband wfh 2-3 times a week so he does most of the shopping. He buys too much stuff and I'm overwhelmed. It doesn't matter how much I have talked to him he cannot understand my perspective. I have to constantly throw away stuff and this is making me irritable. I have tried to approach this subject by saying nicely, harshly and angrily. Nothing works. I didn't get the promotion and hike I was supposed to get and his answer is that instead of focusing on what he is buying I should probably learn to get my raise or change job. This answer make really angry. Kitchen is overflowing with things. I feel like breaking down. I need some way to stop this but I cannot do it.

Take over the grocery shopping. Mine will also do like this if I ask. He won’t see the salt jar sitting right there and buy a new one, forgets that we already have an extra loaf of bread in the freezer and gets one more, bought a gigantic cabbage once when I asked for the smallest one etc etc etc.
If you can’t shop on the weekends then do grocery delivery. Even though it costs more than going yourself you won’t waste money on extras you don’t need and you will also save the aggravation.

My husband is obsessed with costco
Will go to buy flowers, will buy so much other stuff.
    My freezer will be overflowing
I used to tell him patiently, didn't work.
    Yelled at him.
I then told him to fit everything in the refrigerator. He reduced a bit.
Told him he can start cooking and manage the kitchen.

i did not understand . does he not work. which is totally fine. the reason i ask, that is not right response. you cannot just like change jobs or promotions.

also does he have this behavior all the places. like he spends a lot on clothes or other experiences. because it is dangerous as need to financially responsible , as we grow older.

If my husband goes to Indian grocery store...and that's a big IF, his bag will have 50% snacks and the other 50% will be veggies like brinjals, seppankizhangu, potatoes and onions :joycat::joycat: . So, I stopped sending him to Indian grocery and in the rare event that I do, I make sure to send with him a list of items needed, their brand names and quantities.

He hardly goes to Costco maybe once or twice a year. 99.99% of the times it's me who goes to Costco.

If your husband buys more than what you need food wise, why don't you donate the excess to someone needy and keep what you need?

My husband is the same way. He thinks we should focus on increasing our income rather than reducing expenses. He goes to Indian grocery stores and spends a lot of time there—at least 45 minutes—which frustrates and tires me. Eventually, I end up sitting in the car. He buys so many vegetables so I let him clean the fridge so he can see how much he’s wasting. For the next week or two, he won’t go to the Indian grocery store, but then he returns to his usual habits. I take care of all the other shopping except for the Indian groceries.

ROFL. it's the same story in every kitchen! In mine, not perishables thankfully, but other items - they come in bulk size. Garam masala, kasoori methi, any spices that are needed in a unique recipe, everything comes in the biggest packet the store carries. Daal also comes in a 4lb bag. : ) I hate when only half fits in the jar and the rest I have to put a rubber band around the plastic bag and then in a ziploc or something. And it is just two of us at home. : )

I really long for the kirana store of my childhood where we bought the smallest of sizes of spices and other items. Even from the vegetable vendor we could buy only the amount needed.

seeing the costco bags waiting to be put away gives me so much tension. the freezer can take only so many boxes.

I used to do this but now I have started buying small quantities of spices which I replenish frequently. It is a bit more expensive but they stay fresh and I like seeing the uniform jars in the cabinet.

    Same here.
I have to throw the boxes out and only keep the bags inside so as to save up space.
I then take pictures of the cooking instructions in the boxes before throwing them .Lol
The things I have to do for my husband's costco obsession
