    hi susri,

    Children are always in a hurry to finish their work that is the reason for the silly mistakes even though they know the concepts very well. .

    As a maths teacher all I can tell u only practise & concentration will make her avoid silly mistakes .

    U can put her in Abacus or Mental arithmetic class as it improves the child's concentration .

    All the best for your daughter.

    Hi everyone,
    i was myself very slow in learning tables..just the oposite of my elder siblings & both parents.I still remember that they literally gave up on me..but please try other methods becoz convential methods may not always be the best for ur child
    Thinking back maybe a board game like snakes & ladders can encourage skip counting which is multiplication.
    Doing this will make the child realise that multiplication has application & will relate to sumthing tangible more easily.
    Pl write ur experiences & happy learning

    Hi Kurinji and others,As Prabha said, there is no escape.Learning tables can be made intersting like learning poems, slokas or any other memorising facts.
    We have Maths Lab in our school and children write for themselves and find intersting patterns.They remember well this way
    Example:
    9x1=9
    9x2=18
    9x3=27
    36
    45.......
    They see that the total of the digits on the right side is always 9.
    For 3 tables, the pattern is 3,6,9....3,6,9....3,6,9...
    eg
    3x1=3
    3x2=6
    3x3=9
    3x4=12
    3x5=15
    3x6=18 and so on

    For 6 tables, its 6,3,9....6,3,9
    6x1=6
    6x2=12.................(1+2=3)
    6x3=18................(1+8=9)

    6x4=24.............2+4=6
    6x5=30.............3+0=3
    6x6=36.............3+6=9

    6x7=42...........=6
    6x8=48.............4+8= 12....(1+2=3)
    These are only to create interest.Learning by-heart only comes in handy anytime.My grandma used to remember even tables for 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 !!!!!!!Tiny tots can surely mug up:thumbsup

    Yes Prabha,I miss our school!
    Kurinji and others, Please ask ur kids to write 4 tables and 8 tables in bold letters in attractive colours and ask them if they see any pattern.Learning this way will be easier to understand divisibility rules also.They will be ahead of others when they learn division and divisibility rules.
