Part of the magic of Mount Abu is the magnificent marble architecture of Jain temples at Dilwara. It is also famous as the place where Sage Vashistha performed a yagna to create four Agnikula(clans of fire)to protect the earth from demons. Then there is the Nakki lake, which is believed to have been created when the Gods scratched the earth with their nails.
The Mount Abu bird sanctuary is spread over 290 kilometres and is home to leopards, bears, sambars, foxes, panthers and a bevy of colourful birds. For those interested in shopping for give-aways, there are plenty of local shops selling everything from tinkling bells to stone figurines to local art fabrics. To reach Mount Abu you can take an overnight train from Delhi and get down at <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Abu Road</st1:address></st1:Street>. Thanks Roopa. I visited the BrahmKumari headquarters too. It was spiritually enriching.
Shefali, I stayed at the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation's hotel Shikar. The room rent ranges from Rs 600 to Rs 2000 per night. Please look around and you may get better packages of course.
Here is some helpful information if you are taking your kids along. Apart from getting them a feel of the jungle at the Wildlife Sanctuary, they are sure to enjoy a trip to the amusement park located at Sunset Point.
