Dear Vandhana, Happy Valentines day to all. Here is my all time favourite list. I have more movies than books. Movies would be An officer and a Gentleman Casablanca Ghost Gone with the wind Roman Holiday When Harry met Sally Books would be Gone with the wind-Margaret Mitchell Jane Eyre-Charlotte Bronte Sense and Sensibility-Jane Austen Have a lot of bollywood movies will stop with this. Love,
What a good idea Vandhana....you seem to be full of ideas! Hmmmm....there are many and I am sure I will forget many too... Okay, for starters... Books...I luuuuved ALL Jane Austen's books at one time. I think the girls in her books are easy to identify with...all those Victorian morals, do's and don'ts..very much like our own predicament in India And when her protagonists fall in love with those reserved and kind and stern gentlemen, oh my, don't we all love them..well, I did Darcy being the mooost favorite. Then there is the classic Gone With The Wind...I would have eloped with Rhett Butler if he had come alive! Yes, Clark Gable was rakish and handsome, loved the film too. Rebecca was a favorite too. Hmm...for some reason, none of the modern books come to mind as romantic. Shall add later if I remember! Movies...plenty, many...loads of movies that I found romantic. Yes, Gone with the Wind, Roman Holiday and even Sound of Music to an extent. I thought the way Maria and the captain fall in love with each other was sooo romantically portrayed! I simply loved Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail. I cry everytime I watch Mili and Abhiman (Jaya and Amitabh). I loved Pyaasa, Waheeda in love was beautiful! And I loved Vanjikottai Valiban, with two pretty girls loving our handsome hero. Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam was simply romantic. I must have missed many more. But I hope we can add them on? L, Kamla PS: Roja...I loved that film and the scenes of the newlyweds was really romantic!
Hi Vandhana, wow, IL is getting romantic now...thanks to you starting a beautiful thread on V-day. for books, of course, the beautiful classic, Gone with the wind.. I've felt romantic even while reading short clips, stories, etc... but not able to remember names now. While in college, we used to start the story as in M & B and each one of us used to try to come up with our own versions. used to be fun. a bit of photo romancing toooo. for movies, there's lots & lots & lots... Pretty woman - glowing julia & perfect gentleman R.Gere a Walk in the clouds - only romantic movie of keanu. the spanish vineyards & the harvest rituals- my temperature shoot up just watching them get close Sweet November - though a keanu reeve movie was a different one and a differnet romance altogether Notting Hill - who doesn't like to watch Hugh Grant - the handsome & cultivated english guy. I still can't forget the last scene - a pregnant julia & grant on a bench in the park. Dirty Dancing - remember the MOVES .... those were soooooooooo sensual Autumn in New York - Another R Gere movie starring the young winona ryder opposite him. It was touching.. Runaway bride - another julia & gere movie. was funny & romantic tooo. It could happen to you - Nicolas cage & Bridget - looked great together and a lot more of Hugh grant movies - Bridget Jone's diary, nine months, two weeks notice, etc., etc., etc.. oh, yes, I do remember this movie, SHALL WE DANCE - which was a nice movie beaitufully pictured.. then there's one J Lo's movie, Maid in Manhattan & then....... the list goes on....... Love,
Hai, Love is in the air and in the net and also in IL too! Roman Holiday tops my list also in Holly wood. In Hindi, Mili, Abhimaan, all romantic movies of Shammi Kapoor, Aradhana. Maro Charithra was a superb movie, though end was tragic. Recent one- Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In Tamil, Mouna Raagam. In Malayalam, there are many movies which I like.
Romantic books: Mills & Boon , what else ! Rom. Character : Darcy, who else ! Movie stars that make for a speedy Lub-Dub: Richard Gere in Pretty Woman Mammooty in Azhagan ( Tamil) John Abraham in Dhoom ( Hindi) Manjula
Not to forget Omar Sharieff , even as an old man. Manjula (Dear Kamla -I feel like a prize ass for posting that old list ! Have edited. Thanx)
Nice list Manjureddy....But you missed out seeing "Romantic" I think. Otherwise, all our lists would have been even longer How about naming the romantic ones....? Maybe we can start another thread for favorite ones.. L,Kamla
Hi All ! Poor Darcy must have got a massive shivering cold with all the "fan"ning going on here! So I will bypass him, halfheartedly. Also the other usual suspects, Heathcliff and Mr.Rochester. In college, Mills&Boon was the ultimate Infra-Dig accessory, one couldnt allow oneself to be caught dead with it. Only Sartre and Salinger, please. But come holidays, away from prying, judgemental peer-eyes, every one of us girls would polish off three or four MnB rags on the sly. All those Tall-Dark-Handsome Rakes were irresistible , who cared about the stupid plotlines. 150 pages of unattainable romance and wild dreams were enough of a fix. Cant remember any names though. My other crushes: Conor Larkin ( From "Trinity" by Leon Uris) Lord Byron ( from his biographies and the movie "Lady Caroline Lamb") Hamlet ( Shakespeare) Oliver ( from Segal's "Love Story") Florentino ( from "Love in the time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) Vasanth ( of Sujatha) Coming to Movies , the eternal eyecandies are: Clark Gable/Rhett Butler ( Saw movie first, read book later, so both names indistinguishable from each other) Gregory Peck ( but, of course !) Marlon Brando ( as Mark Antony, oooooh !) Richard Harris ( as Cromwell) Indiana Jones Dev Anand as Jewel Thief Amithabh Bacchan in Zanjeer Vishnuvardhan in Nagarahaavu ( Kannada) Ranjan in Chandralekha ( was the badguy. But was he dashing !) Most recent drools: Prakash Raj in Nagamandala ( Kannada) Prithviraj ( mallu youngster - in tamil "Paarijatham") Raghuvaran ( in "Sivappadhikaram") VS
