    Dear Friends,

We will be moving to Muscat soon & have following questions -

Q1. Good family suburbs for Indians ? I heard about Qurum & Al khuwair..

Q2. Indian School fees approx per month ?

Q3. Good Indian schools or kindergarden ? My son is 3 year old

Q4. Monthly living expenses for family of 4 ? ( other than Rent)
we live normal higher middle class life, eating out twice but not into drinking & pubs.

Q5. How much maids charge per month ?
& if maids are easily available....?

Q6. If car is required in Muscat or public transport or taxi's are good ?

    Thanks
    Seema

    Hello @seemaravindran
Welcome to Muscat.. Its an awesome city.. I can't help with all of your quires as I have completed only a year here.. I myself is still exploring the city. But will help you as much I know..

Q1. AL khuwair has lot of Indians. Even we moved from azaiba to AL khuwair just for that. I don't know about qurum except that its bit pricey.

Q2. You can get fee details from Indian school website.

Q3. Can't help you with this as my daughter is 2yrs old. But heard that ISM is best among Indian schools here. If you find any good nursery kindly share here. It would help me.

Q4. Prices are bit less than Dubai.. don't know what else to add as ours is a small family.. Sorry..

Q5. For us it was easy to get a maid.. Ours charge R.O.35/month for 2bhk.. I think availability and charges might depend on the area where we live.

Q6. Car is definitely a must in Muscat. Taxis and sharing cabs are available. Buses were introduced only recently. But no public transport cover interior areas.

@seemaravindran it is beautiful place if you are not into faster pace, though comparatively faster than when I first entered this country long long ago. You have lot of activities under regional wings of Indian social club if you like socialising.and the temples are having some function or the other.

Q1. Good family suburbs for Indians ? I heard about Qurum & Al khuwair..
Qurum, alkhuwair both are good. So is alghubra and darsait.
Depends on your interests and the school for your kid.

Q2. Indian School fees approx per month ?
Depends on the school. ghubra is tad costlier. And the rest follow.

Q3. Good Indian schools or kindergarden ? My son is 3 year old
Indian school ghubra, muscat, seeb, and some others are there now I suppose. I it is nursery and you like you can check art of living nursery too.

Q4. Monthly living expenses for family of 4 ? ( other than Rent)
we live normal higher middle class life, eating out twice but not into drinking & pubs.
@VaniVyas would be better person to answer this. I can tell you it was 200 in 2007 very lavish spending. 75 was great in 2000.lol

Q5. How much maids charge per month ?
& if maids are easily available....?
You do get maids and cleaners. My husband pays 30ro for full cleaning once a week.
I was thinking of asking @chocalatey is she meant the same or a daily one. If so Wow.

Q6. If car is required in Muscat or public transport or taxi's are good ?
I know people who stay without a car.it works if you have good friend circle and you are comfortable travelling in taxis, shared taxis or buses. A lot better than earlier. But a car is a comfort.

@seemaravindran I think most of your quereirs are ansewred.

Yes Rent depends a lot on the area where r u leaving. Decide based on where your hus is posted. Nursery schools are many.
Public transport is not reliable and taxis are over priced. A car in muscat I would say is not a comfort but a necessity. You may have to spend a lot in learning driving but it is worth the amount spend. You u have expat taxi drivers who can take you around Muscat, it is okay but they are also not cheap.

Rent ranges from RO. 250 ( at a decent area for 1 BHK) upto RO. 500 ( in posh areas).

If you have anything else, let me know. I am based in Ruwi.

@Chocolatey nice to see you here. Where r u staying?

@chocalatey that is great.hope she can work here.if not be careful.
And i too love al khuwair. Kind of miss those old small shops near the park opposite radission. Though the veg market it still there that fun is not there..

@VaniVyas i thought you were from alkhuwair for some reason.

And a lavish cost of living apart from rent..
    Ball park that amount @2016..

@Shanvy.. Ours is actually a male maid from an agency.
We actually stayed in azaiba before. Though I enjoyed the scenic views, I felt very lonely there. Al khuwair always fascinated me with its liveliness. Waited to moved there. And now we are in AL khuwair. I have seen the roadside shops.. But I never know that there is a veg market there.. Have to check it out.. Thanks..
