must be the distance.....plus the accident...I too had an accident in 2009 but now since 3 years is over it does not impact rates I was told. Hate paying for insurance till we actually need it
13% tax on groceries? that is robbery.... Rakhii- I read a lot about cloth diapering (CD) and decided to go with it- better for baby too they say - no rashes etc plus it looks so nice and colorful and super soft. So I ordered some Charlie Banana CD and it is sooo awesome of couse since I did not have to deal with the "dirty" part yet I am excited with the product and cannot wait. I may sing a different tune after couple of months
Not just on groceries...on everything we pay 13%. So, if I say I want to budget $100 per week for groceries, I should be buying groceries worth only $87 to be on budget.
VAT in India is also crazy by the way. They do not tax food so high thankfully. Look at petrol cost in India, more than 50% tax. 47Rs fuel cost w/delivery and 25rs taxes.
Hi, Monthly Budget 1. Rent $1450 one bedroom( compromising a lot on this) 2. Phone(international VOIP unlimited calling included),wireless family account, TV and internet total cost $220 3. Grocery $400 + $100 food joints 4. Car expenses - 2 cars gas+auto insurance $250 6. Medical Insurance company $15 copay so say out of pocket in a yr $60 7. Utility bills including paid laundry $60/month 8. Car EMI $400 per month 9. Private School fee the biggest expense $1300 per month( Can not compromise on this because my son is a bright student) Last summer we had India trip sponsered by company(no more :-( )and I did around Rs. 80000 shopping there for 3 of us. So no need of Shopping(Apperals and bedding, kitchen, dinning etc) at least for 3yrs. But my husband come to conclusion that in order to sustain life in USA I also have to start working here. I was a bright student throghout my academics passed my computer engg degree in Dist. got married immediately nxt yr after completing graduation, worked for 3 yrs but after my son was born left the job to enjoy motherhood No regrets that was my decision. Now after around 8yrs of SAHM break somehow its getting hard to make up my mind to start a career from scratch. We r on L1A and L2 My husband is working for same employer from past 6yrs on Mangerial position in India and now Senior manager handling Cloud computing proj. in USA But with new management company is not willing to pay good salary what he deserves. Need to do GC first but he scares to take the job in US based company because he doubts US economy and security of job. So either I hv to do job or need to go back to India. Due to my post this thread became monthly budget + dilemma lol but after almost 3yrs of stay we feel its costly and hard life in USA. So far the only one thing I like is my DH spends more time with us than what he used to when we were in India. Thats why I asked in my other post on which factors Salary depends?? Visa,MS Degree,Working for US based company or what??? I have a huge question on my mind :confused2: So much personal details :hide: but no one knows me here personally. Now I started reading a book How to Raise A Millionaire sorry billionaire I should say lol :bonk
Oh!! what a mistake by you? You must be reading "How to marry a Millionaire" book few years back.. In any event, your COMMUNICATIONS(Phones,Net, TV etc) budget can be re-worked.
Pranjjal- Salary would depend on a lot of factors- location, industry, experience, education. I dont know much about Indian companies but my guess would be that US jobs pay more.......I could be wrong and it could be comparable but then I know very little about IT industry. My answer is more a general one. Also my understanding is H1B visa category should not matter when it comes to salary as companies cannot discriminate between H1B and US citizens in terms of salary (has to be in range) because if there is huge disparity, companies will have hard time with H1B approvals. Resoning being companies would be accused of hiring foreign workers at cost of Americans just to save money.
Pranjjal, We only talk about budget here.. I think house rent is not relevant for discussion as it changes by city (Realized this after posting) You can try the suggestions given by the ILs to reduce cable tv and phone expenses. Besides that, I think you're fine. Good idea
GC will be much easier for you, should be done in a year to year and half. That will open up a lot of options. Nice to see that you are putting up kids education on top of your list.
