First Apple with its ios now Google's brain child Android (L)going the 64 bit way , meaning which the address of a location in memory has 64 bits in it,so the size of the registers and memory addressing space going to bump from the existing 32 bit and leaves a new instruction set for developers, With the current android emulator developers can support only Intel's X86 atom and trail series processors, the yet to release emulator for the ARMv8 instruction set will support Nvidia's 64bit Tegra K1 Soc along with Qualcomm's 810 Soc. There will be both advantages and disadvantages going the 64 bit way, Java apps built on 64 bit architecture will get ample support, Good low power management, wider memory allocation and optimum utilization of RAM, there by increased performance. Drawbacks include App support, most of the apps are optimized for 32-bit, it engages a bit of time to rebuild them for 64bit, If the data bus is not 64 bits wide, then there is no I/O advantage as it is being said. Within a few months we are starting to see Android L OS smart phones with 4 and more gigs of ram ...
