Every men should learn how to cook. Most men of recent generation are learning how to cook because they think planning to eat healthy food can be implemented better by them making their own food. My son is too scientific in his cooking and wants to wait to add ingredients at certain stages of cooking and he explains all kind of stuff that goes well over my head.

I kept my cooking skill a top secret until I moved over to the US. I was working long hours and traveling extensively as long as I was working for public companies. For the past 16 years, I am working from home and I can plan my work throughout the day with little breaks. When my wife goes away to India, I cook and eat my own food.

My MIL came to know this because she was constantly asking what I was doing when they went away to India. Eventually, I revealed the secret to her. She was playfully asking me why I don't make food when she is around. Since then, I prepare food 2-3 times a day and my wife loves this break. My wife and Mil enjoy the meal so much whenever I cook food.

Good to hear your experiences in cooking. My husband is a scientific cook and what he says goes over my head. But end results are excellent.

When a woman can earn money then why not a man can enter in kitchen? Boys should learn to cook simple dish atleast so that they can eat homemade food and should not depend on others . If both are working then have to cook together .

It doesn't happen in many families. In this case her husband doesn't want to lift a finer or even monitor the maid she has hired.

I have seen my dad in the kitchen from young age. Even my mom can't make certain dishes which my dad can make. I mean he has that unique taste. He is 65 and helps mommy with veggies cutting , prepares those unique dishes, vessel washing etc. My FIL has very less vision , but he grates cocunut, peels skin of cooked potato, removes the skin of peas etc. My hubby helps me in the kitchen with any small /big task I assign. He can survive on making basics when I am away. So definitely there are men out there who do their bit in the kitchen.
Your friend needs to be clear with hubby and say him cooking is life saving skill. It can help the kid(male or female) to survive in foreign countries and in home situations when mommy needs rest and the Daddy who can't cook because he feels "Expecting a boy to work in kitchen" makes her a bad mom! What a mentality.
And no need to make their life easy with OPOS and all. Let them learn proper cooking.

I have seen my father/brothers/hubby helping in kitchen and I don't understand why few men treat kitchen as no entry zone. She is considering to teach OPOS to her boy in summer holidays but not sure how her hubby is going to react.

Being one of the two sons of my mum, I learned to cook to standby on days when my mum was not allowed to enter the kitchen. My mum had taught me a dozen easy items to manage as a cook on 'those' days. After my marriage, my wife joined my mum in managing the kitchen. Thereafter, I never got a chance to try my hand at cooking. My wife who is past 70 continues to cook and proudly declares that only she knows what I like and what is good for me. She never allows me to enter the kitchen except to chat with her!
My daughter and son-in-law take over the kitchen for dinner as soon as they return from work. I eat the dinner thinking of the wonderful lunch my wife had cooked! Not fair I know but you know how relationship of over half a century works.
Talking of men cooking, men form an easy majority as chefs. Of the 11 Indian chefs who are in the global list, eight are men!
