mommies, i am planning on a mei-tai. and as always, i wanted to check here first, "IL the best place to get expert advice". here goes: - should i buy one or stitch one? - if to buy, which brand is good? - if to stitch, where can i get good instructions? thanks in advance!!!
to buy my recommendations... beco baby , its breathable and good, see if that fits the budget, connecta solarweave is even better and good for our weather! and tikka had shared this long long back but i am not so crafty Making Beth's "Man Tai"
Amba, buying was not an option for me 3 years ago - I just did not have the US$ 100 required for it, so I made it. I would suggest you ask your family to look at Ergo baby carrier for you there and if you can make a mei tai to make one for yourself. The other thing to do is look up thebabywearer.com for good deals. In the US, a mei tai retails for around 100 $ - the brands that are popular is Kozy carrier and Babyhawk mei tai. If you are the crafty kind and have a good machine that can sew heavier material, look up T.Choithram in Anna Salai, you get really good twills and linens there (just picked up some material for DS's shorts) Pooh's suggestion of solarweave sounds really good to me. rk
i know this is an external link, but i am posting it for people who wld want to learn more about baby wearing and love baby wearing Babywearing - Cloth Diapers & Parenting Community - DiaperSwappers.com
Ramya, I had mine in MT only at 8 months, till then it was my hands and other local carriers which did not work too well. I had him in MT till he was around 32/33 months. Like Poonam says, there are people who acan carry a child even till they are 5 years old, but my arms/back everything screams mercy, so I stopped when DS turned 13 kg.
tikka and poonam, very very sorry for the late reply. navarathri has been keeping me very tied up. i finally got my MT stitched and is working great for me. today was the first day i got my LO out of the house in it. i did get a few curious stares though!!! thanks a lot for the help and the links. :thumbsup
Yay! amba! lol, the stares. Soon the advice will follow ;-) October is the attachment parenting month and you've got it done in time for it
