16 year old Meera and daughter of the famous music composer Vijay Anthony commits suicide.Reason…Depression.

Hmm…It was extremely hard to digest..

I have always had few questions about depression and trying to understand..

We freely use words like “I am feeling depressed today” as in for feeling low..

Is depression a mental illness which can occur to anyone anytime?

Or is it because of some of pressure due to the relationships and environmental factors?

If it is the second..Is it possible to people to find some support system or change the mindset or change environment or getting out of relationships etc..can it help?
We all feel trapped at times in life but figure our way out eventually..rough it out..

It was hard to digest that such a young life is gone and some blame parenrs but it cannot always be the latter..

Sucidies are a lot these days especially amongst young kids..how to help these kids..

It is a form of mental illness and can happen to anyone.. Depression can affect each person differently and does not discriminate against who faces it. Medicines and therapy don’t always work, even if you have an excellent support system. Some are fortunate to be able to cope with it, others are not.
It is always sad to hear about a life cut short like this.

What was the reason for her depression?
Any information.
Nowadays lots of students doing suicide because of low marks. The stress to excel in exams is too much in India.

I mean..was it this bad years back?

Anything small..people and kids commit suicide:.the way things are going is so worrisome..

Right priorities..
Calculated risks..
Less Expectations..
More acceptance of what we are..
Correct ambitions..
Less social media..
Self care..
Less greed..
Working hard for what “we really want”..
Understanding perspectives..
Being with people we vibe..
Less detachment..
Less competitive for our peace of mind..

do you think the above will help depression? By bringing in the right mindset?

In my opinion, kids should be taught to accept and handle defeats and failures right from their childhood. Parents should be less demanding. I have observed in one of the real time shows where music competition was held for kids that parents were more tensed than their children when their child performed. Just imagine the plight of the kids. These kids lose their entire childhood. As @anika987 rightly pointed out, greed is one of the main reason for all the depression nowadays. when we were children, we have had tougher times. However, we had the willpower and mental strength to handle such situations, which our younger generation sadly miss these days.

I too got greatly affected by seeing this news.
I feel when it is time to leave this world you go away whatever might be cause say accident, disease, suicide.

I think everyone though the strongest of strongest would have felt at least once in his life to commit suicide. But not everyone does. May be this is a portal to go out from this world. I don’t know if I am thinking weird.

I feel very bad when people give parenting advices and judge others . There are so many kids who have faced so many parental abuses either in a smaller scale like beating and scolding to bigger scale like sexual abuse. As a parent we always want to protect our child. We want them to let us know where they are going even when they go out for sometime. I feel how the parents would have felt that she didn’t tell them where she is going and why she wants to go there.
