Marrying a GC holder

    Hi,

    What are the issues of marrying a Green Card holder ? The girl is on H1B visa and is currently working in the US..what happens to her visa status after the marriage and how long does it take to get her GC processed and approved ?

    If the girl is on H1B she can/must remain on H1B. There is no dependent visa or equivalence for a green card. The person with GC has to apply for citizenship. Once he gets the citizenship, he can sponsor the GC application of the wife (on family basis).
    Or the girl can apply for a GC through her employer. Even for this the girl has to remain on her H1B.
    The point is that the girl has to maintain her H1B visa. She cannot move to any dependent status.
