    Dear @nuss,

Thank you for sharing this beautiful write up. Hearty Congratulations to both of you :) It does take a lot of give and take and you have made that clear so easily in your write up. I couldn't help but smile when I read how dissimilar you and your spouse are and it is no surprise that most of us are like that. But the important thing is you understand one another like you have expressed and I have quoted here :)

Understanding that we are different yet doing things for the ones we love every now and then is important and you are doing that so well. Wish you many more years of happiness!

On a side note, I was slightly bummed when i read you have left us midwestreners :( Just kidding. Like i have said earlier too, hopefully will meet you one day!

Your music preferences made me think of the collection of short stories under the title "Arranged Marriage" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni -- one of the stories had a marriage (arranged by the parties themselves) of an American (of desi parents) and a first gen desi immigrant. The latter likes hindustani filmi music, and prone to break into such songs in the quiet of their american home, while the other could not participate in that joy and nostalgia to any measure. Difficulty ensued.

    • Once upon a time Indians were caucasians in the USA.
    • And then they were deemed NOT SO... because some of them were just too darn dark.
    • And eventually it didn't matter.
Many in the central valley of California who had owned agricultural land when they were legally caucasians, had to find legal work-arounds to survive on their "own" lands.

Here is a citation that can wet your feet on the matter:
United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind - Wikipedia

I was just referring to the nerdy conversation my friends and I have. The anthropologist/history buffs like to correct me at every chance:).

    Caucasian race - Wikipedia

The biological classification has nothing to do with skin color, it’s based on anatomy and that’s what they refer to.
”In biological anthropology, Caucasoid has been used as an umbrella term for phenotypically similar groups from these different regions, with a focus on skeletal anatomy, and especially cranial morphology, without regard to skin tone.”
