We have the custom of making poli also. Incidentally we are organising mangali pondugal in our inlaws house in connection with brahmopadesam of bil's son. My SIL says whatever is given to the sumangalis should be kept inside a basket(bamboo/plastic) and given. You can consider giving kasturi manjal instead of normal one. My mama gave saree to all of us at his pooja. Of course it all depends on our budget and customs. Don't forget to add glass bangles to the list.
Thanks Ranchu I dunno about thanni kootu.. but in menu as my MIL told, some kootu is arranged... lolz.... since this is my first time doing this, I am scared that all should go rite without any scoldings... Yea me too expecting "Manasaara solrom..... Nanna Triptiyaa irunthathu" from the sumangalis... Bless us all please..... Nandri
Thanks LG Today was a hectic day in purchasing all the items... When my DH came home from office, I made flying here and there to market with him, purchased all the items required for the pooja... As you told, I asked mom just now of Poli, which is not in our custom it seems.... Just as you told, Bangles are there in thamboolam and that has been purchased in the list. Thanks again.... (Instead of Saree, this time, Ravikkai bit is placed due to advice of my MIL) Nandri
Dear friends One more big doubt arised yesterday night..... Whether Kolam at entrance of the house is to made with Ezhai kolam or Pulli vacha kolam... My daughter raised this question. Even though my MIL was not informed on this, my daughter is particular, while during amavasya, it is not done, whether on sumangali prarthanai day, what type of kolam has to be put... Could anybody shed light on this.... As tomorrow is the day, hope someone could help me out on this.. Nandri
Hi Mala I have seen in my house my mom puts Ezhai kolam when we do this function of mangali pondugal. Hope this helps. Best wishes for the function being successful.
Really thanks shoba for helping this out... I was little confused of putting Ezhai Kolam at home... Now its clear... Nandri
Like in my fathers side, the eldest daughter in law gets the 9 yards. Even the menu differs from family to family. In one of my cousins place they make okkarai also. So, go by what your MILsays
Yes...its true... my inlaws are actually from Tanjore district... Most of tanjore brahmins follow some ezhai kolam at most of the houses... Since its first time after my marriage, I was to know... Almost 90% of the methods, MIL has told and arranged for the function... This kolam thing, she could not recollect it... Hence this doubt arised out of mind... Anyways thanks dear.. Nandri
