Dear Shree Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Monday the 23rd Feb 2009. There are 12 Jyotirlingas in India. The list above is complete. It is believed that a spiritually blessed person can see the jyotirlingas as columns of fire piercing through the earth.
Dear Sushma Thanks a lot. Shiv Mandir,Banglore includes miniature of Divine lingams all over India. Marvellous ones. May God bless us in all our endeavours.
hi sushma, thanx for the explanation. did u mean when a spiritually blessed person will see the columns of fire piercing the earth when they look at the lingam in those places?
Dear Shree and Bujji Thanks for your comments. I really meant that a spiritually blessed person will see the columns of fire piercing the earth when they look at a jotirlingam. Here are some more facts:The word Jyotirlingam literally means Lingam of Light.Lord Shiva is believed to have manifested himself as a Jyotirlinga on the night of Aridra Nakshatra.Interestingly, of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is believed to be swayambhu or self manifested. I recently visited the Har-ki-Pauri temple complex in Jammu. The temple complex is beside a river bed. There are replica- idols of all the four Char-Dhams and other famed idols. It includes one of Lord Tirupati! All in one place!
hi, even i had been to the shiv temple at bangalore which takes through a short but detailed and descriptive tour of all the 12 jyothirlingas....A very beautiful temple with huge statues of lord shiva and lord ganesha !!!! A must visit.. Rgds Roopa
