Maharaj!

That was a great gathering. People from all walks of life were there in that huge palace which was tastefully decorated inch by inch. "This itself would have taken weeks!", exclaimed one of them. The king was seen, attired in a grandeur fashion and sat in a throne made of solid gold with rubies at the head-rest portion. There was an orchestra and ten lovely ladies were dancing to soothing melody recited by the flute artists. Other artists encouraged them while waiting for their turn.

The king was a good one and cared so much for his subjects. That was a rare occasion that called for this celebrity and all courtiers were there, in their best robes. After a song was over the king stood and everything stopped. He made a signal and the huge dining halls were opened by the guards who stood next to them. Delightful aroma wafted all over and everyone felt hungry. But they all were led in an orderly fashion into the dining halls. There were so many dishes, that defied even the most watchful and they were all from different parts of the kingdom. There was even a gossip that there were about 40 best cooks summoned weeks before.

After the sumptuous food, all the people who participated, were asked to stand in various queues, based on their rank and region and were given wonderful gifts. That took about two full hours. As they received the gifts and were about to leave, a bell sounded, indicating that the king or one of the senior courtiers was about to make a speech. There was an immediate silence, as the king stood up, quite majestically, and said "Thank you very much, my dear people!".

The crowd started dispersing in an orderly fashion as the king came back, now just in a single plain cloth. He went and bowed to an old sadhu and said, "Maharaj! Can we?".

p.s. The king went with the sadhu to become one.
