Macrobid Antibiotics during pregnancy

Hi,

Im 19 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 days after urinating it was burning. Today I went to Obgyn and gave urine for testing to check for UTI. The result will be available only after Christmas. Doctor prescribed me Macrobid 100mg antibiotics twice for five days. But i m not sure if i can take them or it will have any side effect.

Please Advice.

I cant give you an answer on this but this is my situation. I am 13 wks pregnant and am having this throat infection/cold for over 2 months now. My doctor said my suggestion to you is as much as possible try to go for natural remedies and dont go for any medications because whatever you are eating is going to your baby too. She also said but the final call is yours and if you want medication I call easily prescribe some. It wont even take 10 secs for me to do it. I said i will let my immune system do its part and didnt ask for any medicines. So from what my doctor said try to avoid medications until absolutely needed

Thanks Nithya for your reply. Yes what you say is right but if there is any urinary infection untreated it will also affect the baby. I'm in great confusion whether to have or not.

Well I m 7 w pregnant and had bad lesions/ infections in my private region...both my skin dR and Fertility Dr were very particular abt the medicine to be used...

even though my fertility dr had given me antibitics for 5 days, it didnt help...my 2nd skin Dr finally said that the infection is bacterial infection that is caused as body immunity goes down after ET...some of my drugs and Saline, I guess, reduce immunity to make the body accept the emby and not reject it as foreign matter/ antibody

Drs explained that this going down of immunity will manifest as throat infection, cold, boils etc

so maybe that could be the case with you..

I will give you a simple solution for UTI, let me know if it works..(I have been a silent sufferer of UTI for many years...)

Boil a table spoon of white barley seeds in a litre of water. Bring down the quantity to half and keep consuming barley water through out the day...I have tried this and this gives relief

You can also add a teaspoon of barley in upma, khichdi etc

Also try and consume Tender coconut water / yoghurt/ buttermilk throughout the day

Thanks a lot SSM for your tips. Let me try and inform you the result.
I heard that having antibiotics during pregnancy is not good for baby so was little scared to take. But went to another obgyn and she also prescribed me the same medicine and said its safe and its like taking prenatal vitamin. So now started the antibiotics with lots of water and coconut water. Let me include your tips too.

How many days will it take the infection to go?

Hi sunshine , I had urine infection in the initial months of my pregnancy. if it is left untreated it is very harmful for the baby and can cause complications. Some antibiotics are safe and even I took a five days course.
And yes drink a lot of water, doctor had told me to take tender coconut daily along with ten to twelve glasses of water. Water will flush out infection through urine.
I was cured by five days course only but still I take care to drink lots of water to avoid re infection

I dint have UTI but had a bacterial infection...it went with the 5 days anti biotic course, but flared up again...had to go thrugh 4 Drs to get it checked , finally last Dr confirmed that its recilining but its not fully gone, but much confortable than before

sorry dont want to scare yu, but these things can take more time to heal compared to regular days

Btw, u havent updated your ticker dear...How are your LOs doing (i think you are expecting twins?)

Thanks Cutemonster and SSM for your replies.

While urinating i have some burning feeling so gave urine for the test. The result will be coming after wednesday as it is a long weekend here. My doctor said there is some blood in the urine and asked me to take antibotic twice a day for 7 days. Im trying to include more water.

Cutemonster do you think it is safe to take antibiotic at 19 weeks? If i research about this medicine some reviews are making me to scare.

SSM im having single baby. Is it safe to take barley during pregnancy? How is your infection? Are you taking any antibiotic? Take care of your health dear.

Barley is safe during pregnancy ...the hospital where I did my IVF often used to include it in the Upma that they give as snacks to patients (both Gyn and IVF cases)

I took anti only for 1 week, then didnt pursue again, now treatment shifted to some diff antiseptic creams (milder). When there is itching, I use Dettol swab, that seems to help...so till the time the infection doesnt flare up, I will continue to use just the gels given..
