    Hi,

I have been doing power yoga since past 6 months or so.
My trainer makes me do 108 suryanamaskars per day (5 days a week).
These days, since a month, I am suffering from lower pack pain just above the hip area.
It is getting worse the more I do yoga.
I approached a ayurvedic doctor and he suggested me to stop yoga for 10 days. When I stopped yoga for 10 days, I was feeling much better in the pain area, however, overall, I was feeling uneasy as I was not working out. I feel something is missing in my life, I was not active, etc. Due to this, I am planning to go to aerobics. But wondering if the same problem occurs in aerobics too..
    Please suggest.

    Thanks
    Vineela

I have been doing yoga for past 1 month.. I started off from 3 times surya namaskar and now i am doing it 12 times... Dont know how you are managing 108 times... You need to start from a smaller number and keep raising it but you have to be careful.. Be aware of your body and do it as far as it doesnt hurt... I think your trainer has a lot of over expectation..

    Hi Lakshmi,

Thank you for the reply. When I started 6 months back, even I started with 3, and increased the number gradually. I never had this problem before, but started recently, where I am unable to stand / sit continuously for more than 5 mins( I have to change my position).

Do not opt for anything which will make you tired. whether it is yoga, aerobics or any workouts always listen to your body and not entirely on trainers. They will recommend what is general whereas each one has different body capacity.
Do any exercise slowly & steadily.

108 is too high. Don't go for power yoga. Get yourself trained from a traditional & experienced yoga tutor. Temporarily stop yoga. Let your back get sufficient time to get back to normalcy. Slowly you can start with your yoga but not rigorously.

OMG 108 suryanamaskars!!!! wondering how you managed to do so much. Too much of anything is good for nothing. Actually yoga gives you a good relief from back pain(or any other pain) if you start gradually and not overdoing it after many months also. Do all the asanas and pranayamas by starting step by step from a good knowledged trainer.

Vanivieela, is it just SNs or did you do any other asanas? It is possible you might have hurt yourself a little while doing the SNs - can you go back to your teacher and ask to teach you some counter poses for any of the poses you have done using the back. If you can, try to do some poses that can help with back pain and just practice them for soometime - again learn these from your teacher. I cannot think of much that could hurt your back unless you have done something wrong with your urdhva svanasana (upward dog) while doing SNs alone. Also what was the speed with which you were doing - how long did you take to finish 108?

    Hi Mimur,

Thank you for the suggestion. As you mentioned, I have been taking rest from yoga for the past few days and am feeling better. I visited a doctor yesterday and she also asked me to workout slowly.

    Hi Srama,

Yes, I do stretches and work out on a particular body part each day apart from SNs. As you suggested, I will get back to my trainer tomorrow.
Thank you once again for your suggestion.
