Do not worry about your kiddo being unable to speak American English. She will pick up pretty quickly. Mine spoke no English at all when he entered preschool. Almost all kids from Europe/Latin America/China/Japan speak no English until they attend preschool. They are very very keen on learning and retaining their mother tongue. Going from my own experience and from those of other non-natives, please continue talking in your mother tongue and have your kid talk it too. It can be very comforting to her in a strange country where everyone speaks a strange english. You can have your kid watch american cartoon shows on cable or on DVD's borrowed from the library. Little Einstein's is quite informative. Just make sure she watches for a limited time everyday. Again if you take her to parks/library/Woodfield mall she can listen to other people talking. One question though: If the teacher is an Indian, how do you expect the kid to pick up American accent?
