This has been the story of my life.

Running out of her classroom, with hands wide open, DD excitedly declared that she has a surprise for me.
We reach home.

Me: what is it? What is it?

She: look (gave me a folder that is sent home before every parent teacher meet. It has all the projects that she had done so far in school).

Me: I happily flip through the pages with coloring, writing , matching shapes, numbers and patterns and all kinds of activities.

She: mommy mommy isn't it pretty? I did this....

I feel a sudden sharp shooting pain on my left side? :rotfl

Did you see the size of my hands and legs in that picture? I was dumbstruck (happens very very rarely). Words fail me and she repeats the question.

Me: (a bit composed now). What have you drawn baby?
She: a family portrait (brimming with pride)

Me: why is mommy's hand so big?
She: because you are bigger than me.

The sharp pain intensifies....ouch....

Me (mind voice): Big is a big word honey. Please use it very sparingly.

She: mommy did you see?..... I made you pretty?

Me: huh? (if this is pretty then .......Controlling tears).

I need a refund. Isn't the art teacher supposed to teach "proportions" ?

I always encourage her to draw the things that she sees around her and also what she sees on tv. So she usually watches tv with a doodle pad or an old diary on her lap.


This goat was drawn by dd while watching tv when she was 2+ much before she stepped into art class.

This goat is one of my fav art work done by her without any help from anyone.

Now I have to blame the art teacher.

Me: (feebly) daddy is much bigger than me. Right?
She: yes mommy. Both of you are bigger than me right?

Phew..... enough.....my fragile heart cannot handle full blown honesty anymore.

Little honesty would do for now...... Little honesty please .......

A picture is worth thousand words they say. .... Awww those pieces of the puzzle make sense now

So that is why she stopped giving me her chocolates for safe keeping. Was she dropping a subtle hint?.

So that is why the skinny jeans was sulking when I tried it on after a few months.......
Here I was cursing the manufacturer for making jeans that shrink.

When will I learn to pick up those subtle hints?:bonk

Her voice stops my racing mind.

She: (after giving one mischievous look at dh) did you see mommy that I made you pretty?
Me: ........(sheepishly).... Yes darling.

She: I gave you pretty eyelashes mommy.
Me: I did see that. Thanks.:thumbsup

She: even made your hair bigger than daddy's hair.
Me (mind voice). Honey......That is again a sore point.
Time to kick John Frieda and his anti frizz serum to the curb.:rant

Me: yes baby I saw that you gave me biiiiiiiiig hair. Thank you very much.
She: because I love you so much mommy. (hugs)
Me: awww thanks baby. I love you too.

Okay. I benevolently decided to go easy on the art teacher during the upcoming parent teacher meet.

But a root cause analysis has to be done.
Someone has to be blamed.

The scapegoat .......errrrrr...Dh....... Walks in at the right moment.

Me: you did this.
Dh: directly tell me for what I should apologize. And let us get this over with and move on.

Me: will it kill ya to just say the words "I love you" everyday?
Dh: :confused2:.

Me: why did you stock the fridge with chocolates everyday?
(mumbling)....Even adults get spoilt by those tv ads ....:rant.

Dh: didn't you thank me for the same yesterday and day before yesterday and the day before that and every day before that!

Me: (a little stunned.....taking my own time to answer.......warning bells ring in my mind voice).... Have to nip this talking back ASAP Anita.

I stomp off to fish out the weighing scale that was kicked under the bed.

Me: okay both of you go and watch tv. I know IL has a fitness forum. Let me go and find it .....

They both come back in two minutes giggling and dd is hiding something behind her.

She: mommy I made a surprise gift for you at school. You forgot to take it out of my school bag.

One more surprise?...:eek.. I cannot handle the truth anymore.

Just drop those subtle hints and I promise to blissfully ignore them and we can all live happily ever after.

Nope.

No escape for me there.

On opening my eyes, I see a lovely decorated paper plate sleeve with yummy kitkats and lovelier mother's day message.

Fitness forum forgotten and weighing scale kicked back under the bed (thankfully the weighing scale was kind enough and it was just a 2 pound gain).

Turned out to be an awesome mother's day ..:thumbsup....... What more can this mommy ask for?

I did notice that she had colored only my dress.
She: you like colorful things mommy. So I colored your dress.
Me:.......( this time).... tears of joy......:kiss
