hi kanaka ragavan, can u also post the benefits of lighting the lamp with ghee, illupa oil, and combination of 5 as i don't get flower i generally take the wick inside the lamp with the match stick to off the lamp. is it ok???? or u have any suggestions..... thanx in advance.
thanks for sharing your wisdom!!! i didn't know many of them. also i have heard that you cannot use 1 wick, take 2 wicks roll them together and use for each diya. 1 wick is used when there is a death in the house.
during damodar month, starting 18th oct, one should offer a ghee diya to a picture of lord damodar. one will get a million times punya, it is the biggest punya which one can achieve. in places where you cannot light a diya, even a candle can be offered.
lord damodar is another name of lord krishna. there is a pastimes, in which mother yashoda tries to tie him to a grinding mortar with a rope, but somehow the rope is not sufficient even when she adds to it. rope means 'dama', hence krishna is also called damodar. you can get that photo from any iskcon temple, and offer a ghee lamp, in the coming month of damodar.
Thank you Kanaka for starting a very useful thread. Good discussions and suggestions made. Very useful.
