    Dear Ilites,

This thread is very informative. Why to keep it dormant? let us all start putting our inputs into it.

    EKALAVYA

"A young tribal prince, wanted to study archery under Drona. After being rejected by Drona, he made a clay image of Drona and in the presence of the image studied archery. His skill was equal to Arjuna. Drona fearing that he would excel his favourite pupil Arjuna, asks for his right thumb as 'Guru Dakshina'. Ekalavyaa, without hesitation severed his right thumb which is much needed by an archer and offered at Drona's feet, happily.

Ghatotkacha - Bhima and Hidimbis son. His maternal parentage made him half-Rakshasa, and gave him many magical powers that made him an important fighter in the Kurukshetra war, the climax of the epic. He got his name from his head, which was shaped like a pot (in Sanskrit, Ghatam means pot and "Utkach" means head.

    Janamejeya

Son of King Pareek**** and great grandson of Arjun wanted to take revenge on snakes as his father died of snake bite. he made arrangements for performing a yaga and thus giving all the serpents as sacrifice. Sage vyasa arrived to that spot and told that he cannot punish all for the act of one, afterall that snake which bit his father has only consummated a curse. thus janamejaya stopped the sacrifice. It is believed that Nagpanchami is celebrated remembering that incident.

    Hi Mira,

Your r right... we must continue this...:thumbsup

Bhishma - son of King Santhanu & Goddess Ganga, great warrior, strong personality, a symbol of truth & duty. He, Devavratha got this name due to his terrible oath - eternal celibacy. He laid in the bed of arrows till the end of Mahabharatha war.

    YUYUTSU

Son of King Dhritarashtra. He was a half-brother to Duryodhana and the other Kauravas. Disgusted by the treatment of the Pandavas by the Kauravas, he joined the side of the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra war and was the only son of Dhritarashtra to survive the war. He was younger to Duryodhana but elder than Dushasana
