    Okey dokey....
#1 Bulls eye from Toy story
The first barcode symbology was patented in 1952 and looks like a bullseye
#2 Nobel prize winner Charles Townes for his invention laser
Laser scanners are used predominantly to read the UPC codes in a barcode and also
the more recent 2D matrix Codes.
    #3 Rail road cars
The first use of the barcode was to label railroad cars
    #4 Woodland boots..
Norman woodland and Bernard Silver developed and patented this idea 60 years ago...and made oh about $15000 for a billion dollar industry today.laugh1smiley
#5 was the wriggleys gum .It was the first commercial product to use bar code.

Then came Gowri after solving the puzzle with her clue
    #6 same galaxy..
this refers to the big story around QR Codes /crop circles and programmer Ben Hopfeng-Aertne
    QRCropCircle.jpg
    2-D Bar Code Advertising - HowStuffWorks .

#7 concentric black and white circles..I actually completely gave away the answer (bad JAG)
so did Priya after that...its all about reading between the lines..whcih is essentially how the light reflected from the
white and black parts of the code translate to bits 0 and 1...and later interpreted .
    Guess that about covers it..

ROFL. Given how much I deal with QR codes, and how less with the kitchen, I am laughing at how hard I tried to make microwave oven fit in as the answer. :)

In retrospect, being unaware of Woodland as a brand (more an importing Bata in suitcase person) was the missing piece for me.

    Good puzzle.

Now if some benevolent admin would volunteer to add the links to the primers to the first post..:bowdown Actually it would be nice to be able to add links to the puzzles and their answers to the first post. We'd have a nice little index of puzzles for people to work on. @Jey are you listening? Who is modding this forum? I need to bug em with some PMs.

This book is written by a ... errr ... ummm ... girl?

No! Woman! I meant to say woman!
Ain't heard of one of those writin' sci-fi 'n all since Ursula K. Le Guin & Doris Lessing. Come to think of it, as far as I can remember, these are the only female sci-fi authors I have ever read.

    And it's self-published!
OK, I will check out Becky C, on the assumption that 97% favorable reviews aren't all from Gramps and Nana.

Note that your cred as critic is riding on this.

Oh well! I just finished it. Turned out to be okay. Not as good as other self published authors like Hugh Howey but not a complete waste of time either. Don't expect Ursula Le Guin standards.

Did this thread have to get active now? :spin
I am rationing my internet time until I get into an efficient daily schedule. I guess I will miss most of the puzzles. :-(

Before you guys pick a theme, here is a puzzle that I meant to post a while ago.

It is easy. If you know the person, you will instantly know the answer. But you don't need to, the other images should be enough to solve it.

    Theme: Americana
