    the same experience was there with me and my sister once... i left the kadai once with oil in the stove... my husband was doing his pooja and as he called me, i went to assist him.. by the time i returned to the kitchen, there was fire in the kadai and was a pretty high flame... as an attempt to reduce the fire, i poured water in the kadai and the fire bursted out more... i called my husband in fear and he put a lid (like the cooker lid) on it and the fire reduced.....

    in the same way, my sister also once had the same experience and she too poured water on it and the fire caught up in the papers kept in the shelves above the stove.... tat time my father put the cooker lid over the kadai and reduced the flame...

    so people in case if the oil in your kadai gets drained up and catches fire, don put water or don panic, juz close the kadai with some heavy lid...
