In general "you are welcome" means " unnai or ungalai varaverkiren". In the above instance (thank you) when you say "you are welcome" it will be "parava illa". Friends correct me if there is more exact phrase available.
Nandri sreeram. Which one should be used 'unnai or ungalai varaverkiren'? Doesn't 'parava illa' means 'it's ok'? I heard it in a cartoon yesterday (a repeat telecast). Please correct me if I am wrong.
"Unnai" is like "you" (singular), "ungalai" can be used as plural or it can be used to address with respect. So it depends the person you address. "Parava illa" exact meaning is "it's ok", but it depends on which instance you are using it. And also not sure whether there is something more exact phrase or word available for "you are welcome" in tamil. Friends please clarify this.
There isn't no direct phrase in Tamil as far as I know. Even if you translate to 'Paravailla', it is correct to some extend. Tamilians, mix lots of english words and we commonly say 'its okay'.
'You are welcome' doesn't exactly translate to Tamil. It is the context. 'Paravillai' in response to 'Nandri' actually translates to 'Not at All' in response to 'Thank you' 'Tharalamaaga' in response to 'Nandri' actually translates to 'You are welcome' in response to ' Thank you' Hope this clarifies
Usually in colloquial to welcome someone we say 'Vaanga Vaanga'.. If you have to welcome in a gathering formally.. then only we say 'Ungal anaivaraiyum varaverkinraen'
