    How can you MISS someone you have never met, yet someone who has been a part of your every SPECIAL moment of your LIFE?


    When, as a CHILD, you woke up with ' *JAGO MOHAN PYARE* ' and closed your EYES to *' AA JAA RI AA, NINDIYA TU AA,* when ' *BACCHE MAN KE SATCHE* made you feel GOOD about YOURSELF, when ' *HUMKO MAN KI SHAKTI DENA* from Guddi made you relive your

    own naughty CLASSROOM moments?....when ' *SOLAH BARAS KI BALI UMAR*' was the BLOSSOMING of the first CRUSH you had? When the pain of ' *AJEEB DASTAN HAI YE*' stirred the DEEPEST chord of your HEART or when one could feel the ABANDONMENT of a freed SPIRIT through ' *AAJ PHIR JEENE KI TAMANNA HAI? '* When *BEETI NA BITAYE RAINA* made you NOSTALGIC, when one felt the HELPLESSNESS of ' *TERE BINA ZINDAGI SE KOI SHIKAWA NAHIN '?* or when one ENJOYED the SAUCINESS of ' *BAHON MEIN CHALE AAO '.?* Or when everytime of the COUNTLESS times one heard " *AYE MERE WATAN KE LOGON'* the TEARS just flowed down one's CHEEKS?     Her latest ' *TERE LIYE HUM HAIN JIYE* ' understandably, not her best, yet brought out the DESPERATION and pain of UNREQUITED love, a FEAT only *LATA DIDI* could achieve.


    *LATA DIDI* is ' *ANADI, ANANT '.. TIMELESS, ETERNAL!* She has only TRANSCENDED our WORLD leaving us with an unlimited TREASURE of SONGS that generations can SAVOUR, into another world where she can continue to SING and ENTHRAL the *GOD'S* who now DESERVE their SHARE of HER too!

    A friend sent me this video that's a tribute as well as an analysis of Lata Mangeshkar's legacy and talent. It is an hour long but sounds good even at 1.25 speed. Initially, it seems like it is critical of the fame and recognition that Lata Mangeshkar achieved. But, if you watch till at least 30 or 40 mins, it is a beautiful and knowledgeable analysis of Bollywood's music across almost eight decades.

    Two things stood out for me: one was the shudh Hindi and diction of both the speakers. The other was that Hardik Bhatt talked about incidents from Lata Mangeshkar's career and musical journey that most of us haven't heard about. I mean we all have read about Nehru's tears on hearing her sing Aiy mere watan ke logon, her tiff with Mohd. Rafi, started earning for her family at a young age, sibling rivalry, argued for royalty for playback singers, never worked with O P Nayyar. This tribute goes beyond those and it was a pleasure to hear about those endearing moments and events from her remarkable life.

    LOL ... the above long description is like in Man Chaahe Geet, the announcer keeps listing names of listeners who asked for the song while one is waiting impatiently for the song in times before YouTube and Walkman/CD's.
