Today's landmark Supreme court judgement reg Assets case in Tamilnadu definitely makes us do a rethinking about women. It is a shame that the figures relating to females behind the bars
are revealing and more disturbing.Women imprisonment, they say, [IMG]has increased more than 20 times in the past ten years.
Women have proved their merit not only in manipulating accounts but also in threats, intimidation and also handling rifles and guns very casually.
Pleasant loving motherhood is slowly being replaced by violence and aggression.
Is it due to higher education, independent thinking and development of entrepreneurial skills?
The offences committed by women surpass the intelligensia of men.
Though women hesitate a bit initially, they become victims to alcoholisms and drugs very easily.Men can accomplish more crimes without being caught in the company of women accomplices.
Transgression of laws is seen as common in women as in men.
Alcohol abuse is a major cause. As women normally have a smaller frame,
even a small alcoholic intake results in less impulse control and they become more violent than men.
Women are affected more by certain psychological disorders which slowly pave the way to criminal behaviour.Frequent mood swings ,escapism etc add fuel to the fire.

Compared to men, women have more of unrealistic expectations, assumptions and foregone conclusions which land them into the road of crime. It is surprising to learn from psychologists
that even men think twice before indulging in crimes, but women never look back.
Whatever be the reason, the result causes much concern.
Domestic violence against men is a taboo in our society and men feel it a little bit awkward to admit that they are victims of domestic violence. The support system that exists for females is absent for male victims.
Domestic crimes may transform into social crimes very soon, as is evident now.

I do not deny that women criminals have been existing from the time of Ramayana. In all TV serials it is these people make and add spice to keep the TRP rating high!Criminals being justified. It is a shame!

How are we going to save the society from women criminals, adored once upon a time as Goddesses and embodiment of compassion?Heart aches.

    Dear JS Ma'am,

Yes, it is distressing indeed. I look at the statistics differently. Is it really that the number of women criminals has sky rocketed or is it that women are also being taken to task with no concessions being made for their gender?

If indeed the number has increased, then it is extremely sad. To your question 'how are we going to save the society from women criminals ......', I have a very simple answer though I doubt things will ever happen that way. Women's biological and emotional qualities have been treated as their weakness. Woman has fallen from the pedestal she once had before the dark ages. Crimes against women have increased (and sadly other women are often responsible or equally culpable). Women are shamed for being 'just' home makers for having children and needing to avail of maternity leave, having to get married and move from their jobs (this may not be so bad these days since everyone job hops a lot more than say 2 or 3 decades ago). They are shamed if they are none of the above. It is a no win situation. So women compete by wanting to be 'like men'. Well, unfortunately crime does not lag too far behind.

It is high time society sat up and took stock of where it is headed and changed it's rotting values and attitudes towards women.

    Hi Jayasala,

You have pointed out something which we all have failed to point out in this historic judgement. We should understand one thing behind this crisis in gender uniqueness that is happening, that one thing is that the world is not the same for both genders. The rules and standards are different for both. Its the same sun that shines on a man and a woman, same rain that pours on a man and a woman, same gravity holding their weight back to earth, but still women face double standards everywhere. Like the famous quote goes "its one monster who makes another" , it is this men dominating society that compels women to behave like them. Hence we now a days see women thriving to be on par with men on every front , even crime!!

    Regards,
    Vindhya

    Dear Jaya,
it is indeed very distressing to read about Jayalalita and sasikala both being found guilty. So much greed for money and then power eh !Sad
i got talking with a policeman telling him how males are getting honeytrapped, why they do this, he said, women entice u when u are rich, they too want a good life, mopney to be spent on them, they are willing for all things that men do, but they get greedy and blackmail the guy that if u wont give us X we go to the cops saying u raped me, whereas it was mutual.
Both men and women are at fault.
i think it makes more sense these days for a man to remain faithful to his wife, for a woman to live of her own earnings, otherwise vice suck u in.
what terrible times we live in, Jaya.
    Regards
    kamal

    Dear Jayasala,

This land mark judgement has come after a lapse of 20 years which only shows how slow the legal system works and the many loopholes in law, through which the perpetrators of crime easily escape. Uphaar accident which claimed so may lives has got a judgement after 20 years and that too just one year imprisonment for one of the Ansal brothers. So do we really get justice- the honest people! As usual a hard hitting write up from you.

Dear Satchitananda,Thank you very much for your response. It is a fact that women have become victims to patriarchy about which I myself have written a snippet on'outburst of foetus'.Yes,there were days when the silence of women was treated as weakness and exploited.
While we strongly condemn such patriarchy that is deep rooted in our society, with the same vehemence we condemn criminal activities by women.Let women compete in every field with men and definitely not in committing crimes.
March 8th will be celebrated as International Women's Day and there will be laurels on mothers/women,embodiments of empathy, sympathy, self less service etc etc,all over rated appreciations.A question arises whether we women have to re assess our worthiness
When we hear such judgements on a case that has been dragging for years to the effect that the prime accused JJ ,so gloriously addressed as Amma everywhere has been proved to be a criminal .It has been said that had she been alive she also would be liable for imprisonment,Rs 100 crores penalty and also a restraint to contest elections for 10 years.
What happens to the 'faith' that is imposed on these leaders by common man?

    Dear Jaya,
Though it is a landmark judgement, I feel justice delayed is justice denied. It had taken more than twenty years for this case and also many other cases. So much delay make the criminals emboldened and daring to commit more crimes. Lakhs of cases are pending for decades for so many reasons like innumerable adjournments and not enough judges. In some cases even after the judgement is written it takes a long time to give it.

    Dear Agatha,
Definitely justice delayed is justice denied. But better late than never. We hope that the judgement should be a deterrent to intending criminals. We need an overhauling everywhere.
The preset trend is, whether men or women, given the opportunity and bad control of impulse are likely to indulge in crimes of the highest order. The crimes can never be justified on the basis of kaikeyi and shoorpanaka episodes.
Certain people teach us how to be and certain others teach us how not to be.Both become our gurus in a way.
