cheer, I think it is very normal at this age. Keep taking her but don't push her. I remember when my son was 2 we used to take him to the library story programs where he would wander off and me and Dh would be sitting listening to the story. It is hard to expect a 26 month old to pay attention for a long time. I'm sure she will settle down after some time. I would say just follow her cues and let her play, but keep taking her to the programs (if they are free).

Hey cheer, where have you been?! Can't believe your daughter is now 26 months old! She's only2 months younger than Riya.

I agree with Sindhu here, it's too much to ask a 2 year old to sit tight and pay attention. Riya does the same thing and it's okay. I used to take a snack cup with me for Riya and she would sometimes sit on my lap and munch on her snack. You can give that a try if the story hour staff allows snacks in the room.

It is quite normai at this age especially for stories. Since stories involves much attention which is not possible by 2 year old, they don't like story time.

One more reason strike my mind is whether do u speak regional language at home? if so, that could be the reason. they don't understand full story in English. At home if you read, we will translate in our language/or sometimes mixed with English.

To develop the interest, keep reading stories at home.

    take care

    Hi Cheer,

I also feel that 26 month is too early to check and worry about concentration power (that too in pre-school -making her to read book/ tell stories etc.,)

Kids at this age loves Free play. (You have mentioned that she loves to play on her own). she probably likes to explore things more, rather than sitting at one place!

The main problem with many pre-schools is that , they don't let kids freely (except for half -hour). Most of the time, they try to confine kids to a room/ hall , where they teach them rhymes, tell stories etc., It may not work successfully for some kids who are less than 2.5 years old.(30 months). This doesn't mean that they lack concentration.

So as an exercise at home, try to grab her attention by showing her some pics in books/ anything which interests her (like toys, safe kitchen utensils, pay doh, colouring with crayons, flash cards).

    Good Luck!
