ok I was following particular pattern that says

knit two, yarn over, slip one stitch, knit one, pass over the slipped stitch, yarn over, knit two

I I understand this increases each row by one. And once toughest to certain width you change yarn color and decrease one per row.

But why does it create a lace pattern?

I don't want the lace pattern for such lightweight yarn. I was hoping for stockinette.

So frustrated. I had to take apart my work do many times.

A knitting should be relaxing, not stressful!!!

I'll just do my own pattern of stockinette, ie one row knit, one row purl, and increase one per row.

    Just needed to vent!!!

    My dear ChennaiExpress
This kind of knitting will ALWAYS produce Lace like holes - .
Actually Laces look best in lightweight yarn.

Still, there are plenty stitches created out of knit and purl. You can google for more, but can start from

Start by knitting swatches on 40 sts and at least 2 inches to get the idea how the pattern will look in the wool and color. It will also give you idea about how many stitches you actually need for your project.

    Happy knitting.
