Dear Nitya / kalmat, Are you a first time dog owner or bringing up a Lab pup for the first time .Please let me rush to advise you that you should not bathe your pup so often .In summer twice a month will do .It drys their skin and leads to skin problems. You can sponge him down and use a good deodorising powder .All pet shops sell a good brand called FRESCIA.At the most , you can wash his four paws everyday and use a good neem based dog soap.Dogs usually sweat under the paws .Another thing is to clean his ears with a damp soft cloth very gently thrice a week . Let me also add that all canines have their own odour and you cannot really eliminate it 100%!! At best , you can make it subside with this powder.Washing often is harmful, except the paws and the behind areas. The dog powder is very effective.Your Vet will surely advise you. What colour is your Lab and how old is he/she now? Do post pics . We have a four year old Lab called Romeo his pics are in my album. You must be having a hectic time as Labs are hyper active ! If you see the movie "MARLEY & ME " you'll know what you will be in for !!
A Lab may produce odor due to a number of factors such as oily skin, dirt accumulation, ear infection, dental plaque buildup. The odor be offensive so closely inspect the puppy from head to tail , look in his ears for debris, look in his mouth for plaque buildup on teeth, check his feet there may be cut or infection on the dogs foot pads, Run your fingers through the dog’s coat, and make sure you inspect all sides of the coat. There may be a concealed skin injury underneath the Labrador’s fur. Also, check for an oily or greasy texture appearing on the retriever’s coat. The coat might be producing dandruff or the skin may be flaky.Do a visual inspection if your unable to get the desired result then seek help from a Veterinarian.
HI Kalma.. we have a lab pup 5 months old... we sponge him with a bit of dettol in warm water every alternate day and shampoo him every 15 days. apart from a daily grooming and application of powder. this keeps him fresh... we also wash his paws after he comes back from his walks and wipe his backside as his potty. we also wash his mouth after his meals.... till now minimum odour...
