    Re: Kumon class

    Hi,
My son has been going to kumon classes since almost a year now. Initially it was too hard for him & for us too. But now since he enjoys building words & adding he is liking it, more than liking it he takes lesser time than before.
As far as learning is concerned sure it is a boon. You cant believe that the kids pick up soo well.
I feel encouraging kids to the level that they can start reading is very helful and major milestone for them.
    Hope this helps

    Re: Kumon class

Hi , I stay in Uk and I have a son who is 7 yrs old and has just started kumon classes abt a month bk. He really enjoyes doing it and wished he had joined earlier, sometimes he tries to finish his next day homework in the previous day. I think its reallly good.they give you a wks homework for u'r child which is good as studies in Uk is alright, i mean they dont get anything to work at home.

    Hi Shravanthika,
My younger one goes to kumon from past 6 months.
I started him with only reading when he was 4 and half yrs.
He is doing great with his studies.
He can concentrate on studies for atleast half hr and he is much ahead of other kids from his class.
For math, I teach him at home. He has started addition.

    Re: Kumon---for preschoolers?

    Hi Shravanthika,

my son is just turned 5 and he has been going to Kumon for both Math and English. English, he is doing extremly well and there has been a tremendous improvement and he loves doing it. I am not very convinced about math though - for now. He is much ahead than what they are teaching and he is really bored to do repetetive math and it is a hassle to get the home work done, especially when he has to do both. A lot of my freinds' kids in the same age group also go.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Shravanthika,
There are few basics they expect from the child like they should know ABC....
    and for math also.
First, they would evaluate the child and then they will start the levels.
It is better to wait until she identifies/writes upper and lower case alphabets, else it would be waste of money for you that they will repeate the same exercise many times.

    Hope this info helps you...

    Hi,
They will have the classes twice/thrice a week depending upon the centers.
You can always get home work for a week and do it.

    Re: Kumon---for preschoolers?

    Hi Srama,
More than English, I like the math worksheets for my older son.
It makes the kids to solve the problems quickly and correctly.
My older son is studing in 2nd grade and now he just started doing factors in Kumon after multiplication and division.
Even I can't solve simple addition/subtraction fastly and correctly, but my son does it.
They have a pattern to make these kids to solve the problems.
BUt yes, after many yrs of kumon, my son is getting really bored and feels its a pain, because of everyday homework.
But once I help him out with the new concept and give him the clues, he enjoys doing it.

beestar vs kumon, what's your idea

I have recently referred to beestar for math worksheet for my kid. He loves it, so do I. Since math is free we started immediately and he got ribbon for his work very week.

If you are new to this site, it's fantastic(beestar .org). The questions are problem-solving type, good to help kids thinking.

I saw a lot of kids from California on Beestar's Honor Roll list. So I look for suggestions here. I wonder if I should take English (ELA) and GT math from them as well, those 2 are paid exercises but only $20-$30 for semester, really nothing compared to Kumon. Most of all, my kid asked more things to do from Beestar site.

My quesion is if I register for beestar ELA, should I go ahead drop Kumon entirely? I am getting a bit tired of paying and driving for kumon, and recently kids lose interest since the formats are kind of boring.

I appreciate if you have any suggestion about beestar and kumon.

    Thanks.
