Thanks Meena Dear Meena, Thanks for ur feedback. Goodluck trying out the avarekaayi huli! I simply love avarekaayi, but we dont get it here. This time, i had a fair share of it as i came to india in the right season. Thanks again for ur feedback
Dear Prathi Thanks for the wonderful karnataka foods. I am a Kannadiga living in the US now. Could u post recipes for pitla and sadigojju(it is made with besan not sure how to make it) Thanks in advance. Regards, Leo.
Please explain, Prathi ! Dear Prathi, Can you please explain what is the kannada term for mochai paruppu in tamil ? I thought it was avarekalu. But you have written that it is broad beans or lima beans. Then what is avarekai ? Some of these eqiuivalents ae baffling me ! Love, Chithra.
Hi Leo Dear Leo, I shall post the recipe for pitla. but i dont know about the other one u have asked. If u r from a different part of karnataka please share ur recipes with us.
Dear chithra, I donno tamil name. Neither did i know the english names. As sonu asked i made a look up in the net and it said avarekayi is broad beans or lima beans. Avarekaalu - we get when we depod avarekaayi. We cant use the outer skin of this bean. There is one more type which we call chapparada avarekaayi which we dont de-pod but use like that only like how we use beans. They are more flatter than the former ones. I donno the tamil equivalents. I think Meena can help us. She is a tamilian and knows kannada terms as well it wud be nice if she could solve our problem. Meena come to our rescue!
avarekai - query Dear Chitra & Prathi, I know only 3 types of avarekai. 1. Mochai in tamil is Avarekalu in Kannada; its called FIELD BEANS. 2. Patta Avarekai in Tamil is chapparada avarekaayi in Kannada. 3. Kozhi Avarekai is suppose to be another variety which is smaller than patta avarekai, in size. don't know the name in kannada or english. Hope this info helps.
Dear Prathi, Are we talking here about the avarekai which is available in B'lore only during it's season and has a distint aroma? We soak the avarekai beeja in water and then dehusk and prepare a avarekai dhal with it. Do you know the recipe for it and if so, can you please post it at your leisure? Thank you in advance.
Thanks Dear Meena, Thanks for the clarification. It really helped. Hope chithraji also got it clear now. I will do the necessary edition to my post now. Thanks again.
Hi Kamala HI Kamala, I got u. U r talking about hithakavarekaalu. My mother prepares it very well. I dont have the recipe now with me. I shall ask her and post the same.
