Congratulations Priya. Welcome to the club.

I had nausea in first pregnancy but nothing so far this time. Hope it continues.
But slowly starting to crave for diff: foods esp spicy ones. Want to eat pickle all the time. Trying to control as much possible as its not good.

    Tinygirl,
I had leg cramps the first 2 wks i.e. immediately after I missed my period but they have some down now. Read something that there might be cramping.

The major thing i have is mood swings. Some times i feel so energetic and motivated. Some times i am so dull and mood off.

    Hi priya,
your son looks very cute there..
Hmm...another scan? I think that is to detect chromosomal abnormalities...
Here in US they dont do much scanning, the first one will be at 8 th or 10 th week some doc prefer it as late as 13 th week. Only in some particular cases..like if you are suspecting ectopic preg or if there has been a previous miscarriage they will do a earlier scan to confirm the preg. I had a miscarriage 3 months back..so i requested doc for it. Scan to detect chromosomal abnormalities is our choice..

Yes... Even i feel very low some days..and some other days i am full of energy. Even my daughter is thinking of names for the baby..she is coming up with all sorts of names :) . She is old enough to know that a new baby will be joining our family...but she is impatient, she keeps asking "is the baby ready to come out and play with me" :rotfl

I am having transvaginal scans all this time. It's kinda assuring that everything is going fine. I think they will start Ultra sound scans only after 10 or 11 week? When do they normally do NT scan? I mean which week.

I got to see heartbeat of my baby and I couldn't control my tears :) Best moment

    Hi vidya,
i know..the first time you hear the heart beat....its so magical plus you are assured for the first time that everything is ok and that you are infact pregnant.
Everytime you hear it... the time just freezes..you want to keep hearing it again and again. Though this is my second pregnancy i am counting days to hear my baby's heart beat...

Nuchal translucency scan is done between 11 and 13 th week. My sister's was at 12th week.
so how many scans did you have vidya?when is your next appointment ?

I am counting days for my scan. Waiting to hear the heartbeat and want the doctor to say every thing is fine. Just an assurance.
I remember I was tensed the same way during my first one as well.

    Hi tinygirl,

I had answered in detail for your questions in the may club.. not sure if you got to check it.. so pasting it again here..

    ===========

    Hi Tinygirl,

In US we usually have doctor appointment every 4 weeks since the first time you visited the doctor, till about 28 weeks, then its every 2 weeks. Then after 35 weeks, it is every week check.
In my case, last time and this time, my doctor prefers to do an ultrasound in every visit. There is no hard and fast rule for this, I know many doctors who don't do scans in every visit and just ask questions.
    So each doctor is different.
It is covered by my insurance, so I like the ultrasounds as I can see the baby.
And I have some previous histories due to which doctor prefers to do regular scans.

For bloodwork, the schedule is usually as soon as you get a positive, you do bloodwork for HCG count and a full OB Panel for all the counts.
Then, around 12 weeks for downsyndrome, then around 16-17 weeks for second trimester screening for birth defects, this results they combine with the 20th week anomaly scan and tell us that baby doesn't have birth defects etc..

Around 28 weeks, you will have GTT which is Glucose Tolerance Testing.
In this, you will have a sweet liquid, and they take bloodtest after 1 hour. If it is negative great, if it is positive, then they ask you to do a 3 hour test. In this you take a sweet liquid (its too sweet), then after every hour for 3 hours, they take bloodtest. And then they can see if you have gestational diabetes or not.
If you do, then you will have to maintain diet according to that. If not, no problem.

Around 30-32 weeks, we have growth scan to see growth of baby. I went for a 4D scan at that time last time, and got a clear picture of the features of the baby.

After 35 weeks, they monitor us for seeing if dilation, if baby is coming down, if baby is in birth position i.e. head down etc..
After 37 weeks, you are full-term and baby can do well outside anytime its born.
But its better if close to 39-40 weeks since lungs are still forming after 37 weeks.

Hope this gives you a full idea!

    SM

Thank you so much @successminded for the details. Really it's very very helpful for a first-time mom like me. My concern is the doc has still not done any blood test for me. Is this a concern? Will sure ask her in my next visit

Well the doc whom I am consulting is IVF specialist so she also prefers to do a scan every time we visit. She told it's better to know everything is fine than detecting no heart-beat or any thing else all of a sudden. As I told, since I am also scared all time, the scan helps a lot.

@soul song Till now 3 scans. Saw heartbeat twice. Another one again on 28.
