It takes a Nanny to raise a child.

Our modern metro smart city life, nuclear families, and both partners working to meet necessary and unnecessary expenses have proved the African saying wrong-

It takes a village to raise a child.

It has also proved wrong the often made cliché that mummy raises a child and makes him or her a good and responsible citizen.

The job of parents and grandparents has been handed over to full-time nannies or part-time babysitters.

Two new words have been coined -quality time- to justify the little time parents are in a position or willing to give to their kids.

I have, therefore, come up with this 'saying' to replace the African saying in our modern smart cities.

The latest news is that science has developed a womb and incubator for babies, and there will no longer be a need for women’s wombs or surrogate mothers. The baby’s DNA can also be altered as desired.

    What a progress indeed.

That is revolution in evolution. From monkey to (wo)man world this far advanced.
Surrogacy reminds me of law in Israel where surrogacy is banned.
Rising child is an art and that is better to leave to professionals. As modern mothers many are ignorant of nitty gritty of it and they depend on WhatsApp groups for advice. In joint family system learning of handling day to day matters including child rearing was easy. The required knowledge absorbed only by observation of senior women. But now we are concerned with generation gaps!

The availability of reliable babysitters, nannies, and groundbreaking medical advancements such as IVF and artificial wombs for premature babies is progress.

It is too premature to talk about the manufacturing of the womb. It has to go through rigorous tests to find out how it functions and what are the inputs needed for it to function efficiently. There is a reason a bonding is created between a mother and a child and it is not replicable. Even if men find a way to take over the creation of the universe, still we need to figure out how to maintain it and eventually destroy it, if it goes above and beyond the purpose why it is created.

The joys of experiencing pregnancy, labor pain and subsequent motherhood would be sadly lost. Of course if there is a medical necessity, then this is a boon.

Well, every revolution or evolution has two sides. The need for a nanny or babysitter opened job opportunities, and so did surrogacy. But, in the process, the victim is the child who is deprived of the mother's motherly love. There is no wonder that fewer couples are planning children.
Some European countries are facing the problem of old people on the one hand and a reduction in population on the other. One thing leads to another, and they have no choice but to welcome migration from poorer countries for menial jobs.

If there is demand, there will be supply. According to a news item, Japan and Korea have jointly succeeded in developing artificial wombs and matching incubators, which may solve the problem of decreasing populations in some European countries. We may call it progress as it meets some demand.
Sometimes ago, cloning was also successfully tried. Thankfully it was limited to animals only.
As I said, the victim is the child.

Yes, of course, that is the challenge. As is said, science is a good servant but a bad
master. The other opinion is that the world population will stabilize by 2050, which possibly means that the birth and death rates will be the same.
The concept of disposable relationships seems to be coming true.

Well said! Barring medical necessity, natural birth and upbringing for a child is a must. Unfortunately, today's fast materialistic life is finding ways and means to destroy that.

Japan and Korea have succeeded? Reminds me of a quote by Abraham Lincoln - "Don't believe everything you read on the internet."

Scientific advances like IVF, surrogacy, donor sperm use, egg freezing, genetic screening, and stem cell research have all had or still have the potential for misuse. Well, people still prefer to conceive naturally, technologies like surrogacy are mainly used by those who need them, though a few wealthy folks may use them for other purposes. Similarly, emerging technologies like artificial wombs will likely have oversight to prevent mass use and misuse.
