    I have done extensive research on this. enquired within my relatives, friends circle.
    But still I dont know WHY WHY WHY?

    More..
    10) "Kids dont get hungry so often..why are you making a snack now? In my days gave only milk in the evening.." (Kids have had lunch at 12 PM and it is 6 now. Did not eat/drink anything in between...)
    11) It is ok to brush the teeth in the kitchen with one hand and handle cooking utensils with the other hand or worse, have the toothbrush dangling in the mouth and do work around the kitchen..spit and then continue walking and talking around the house...(yuck yuck yuck yuck)
    12) Kids should use indian toilet and not the attached (to their bedroom) western toilet
    13) Poojas on festival days last 5 mins, following NO tradition. Cooking is for half a day.
    14) If someone comes home to visit, make two spoons of upma or worse, just half cup of tea. Even if they have come from far away and it is almost dinner time.

    there may not be any reason for these stupid customs...my MIL prepares customs as per her wish...if it is a custom in which I have to gift MIL...it becomes very important custom....and the customs in which MIL has to give something to DIL...tht custom is not followed in her house....
    Same things happened in my marriage....not a single custom followed where boy's side gives gift to gal's side...hamare yahan ye nahi hota...thts wht my MIL says...
    So now i give a damn to every custom which she tells me....

    Hey coolpinky, heard that the coconut or the white pumpkin represents the uterus..and by breaking it we are affecting our chances of conception...thats why ladies should not break them..

    Ha ha.. I thought the coconuts are similar to our in laws' heads, and as a DIL we are not suppose to break them.. even though we want to break them!!!

    LOLZ!! Thats exactly what I imagine when i break them in my house !! :D:D:D:D and I have two darling kids to prove that all of this belief is total crap...!! :D:D

    I've also heard this justification from many ladies of our home..... in a lot of North Indian families... where coconut was not a integral part of kitchens and once in a blue moon when needed.. the man has to break it.
