    Hello everyone,

Our son is 27 months old and hasn't been saying Amma, Appa, Thatha etc. When he's hungry, he speaks a few words like kaka, boova..

We're wondering if we could try speech therapy to enable him to speak better. We also understand that we can wait a few more months.

We live in Chennai and any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your time, ladies.

My opinion is u can wait for 3 more months atleast till he is 2.5 years old.
    Meanwhile try the following.
    1) Talk slowly to him. And do not expect/force him to talk. But be persistent in talking to him.. Ask him like "Inga polama or Anga Polama", "Idhu venuma Adhu venuma".. Allow him to respond through hand signs also.
    2) Always keep talking in the house (Ideal if there are elderly people).
    3) When talking, try to talk slowly so that he observes your lip movement.
    4) Invite his friends of his age to play at home. You involve in playing with them and conversations associated with it
    5) Show books with pictures and animatedly explain the story. Relate it to what he sees everyday.

Most important of all - Be patient, Be smiling and happy. Encourage him.. Do not show your anxiety or tension..

And my best wishes. Soon he is gonna shower you all with his mazhalai..
And for your info - the world's best orators all started speaking late..
My husband started speaking at the age of 3.
And boys are slower to talk than girls.
    God Bless.
