I like doing it out of love. Not coz am scared or subservient or he is forcing me.We have mutual respect for each other and I like doing things for him.

An acquaintance came to my home and frowned upon it and said something a bit hurtful..

Is this abnormal at this age and day ??

    No it's not abnormal.
    Just ignore the acquaintance.
I personally don't serve my husband :tongueout:
    But will serve guests.

    OP,

I follow one rule in my life now -

Irrespective of whoever it is, be it my mom, my in-laws, my sister, my friends, my acquaintances, I dont let any of these people's opinions interrupt and interfere in what i do for my husband and i ensure my husband keeps it that way too.

Nobody should have any say in your personal life. Your relation with your husband is different from what that person has with hers.

So my advice would be to ignore. Infact, i actually give people back now when they try to overstep their boundaries.

If you keep modifying your behavior according to other's standards, then you end up living their life, not yours - IMHO.

    More information is required.

Was it a weekend? Lunch or dinner time? Were all having the meal or just your husband? Did you serve the acquaintance too? Was the acquaintance's spouse also present?

Were they around for 1-3 hours or just dropped by for a few minutes?

Did the acquaintance say something light like, "Now that is seva!", or did he/she unsmilingly say "why do you serve him!"

Don't bother about people who judge anything and everything on earth.Your home, your life and your happiness .There is nothing wrong in serving or not serving food to your close ones.People do this according to their convenience. What's wrong in this ???

I take complete responsibility of the home and hubby is the breadwinner.

We as a couple are very flexible and adjusting to each other’s nature.

For eg: even if I do not cook for a week or not serve he won’t care.If my hubby messes the house,I won’t care coz I enjoy cleaning up.

There is no dominance or one has to be a certain way in our relationship.Pretty easy going.

    So it works between us.

He treats me like a queen and I like to treat him as a king.

But we also fight like cats and dogs:D

I personally like serving good to people and even when guests come, would go an extra mile and make them comfortable as I have seen and grown up in an household like that.

So I do the same here. Even when I was working I did the same.

The guest came to me privately and said “ Don’t mistake but do not cultivate this habit as this is America and do not spoil your husband this way.If u were working,You would not be made to do all these things.Just felt bad seeing u this way”.

More than hurt..maybe I used the wrong word..I was irritated.
