Well..returning to India and adjusting is tough even for younger people as we have experienced certain comforts here.Especially for women who are working and with elderly kids,it will be tough to restart a whole life in India during younger days. Some things go smooth in America which might not be the case in our country.Only problem is sometimes life is bit lonely in America but there is "life" in India.

Anyways..coming to the point, younger age can be enjoyed will in usa but older age ??? that is the age when there are less desires and we become more spiritual. In usa,,it is tough to go to different temples on daily basis like in India or do other elderly activities.adding the loneliness factor which is a problem even to the younger people, imagine being old and lonely in america!

Putting things in a nutshell, India is good for old age and usa is good for younger life. Returning to India with very less responsibilities is the best thing. However, is it even possible to return back to India during old age?

My cousin was arguing saying that if people can shift from delhi to chennai and begin a new life, why not from usa to India.also there r lots of NRI quarters these days.she is confident people can adjust.kind of made me feel good.

    what are your thoughts?

What about health care? We don't have a full fledged health insurance in India!

Once you left the your home country you will start to missing from the day one, its not the age we are living. Something like the comfort level we get when we stay in our relatives house, we needs to adjust and lose for something.

Also nowadays India cannot be considered as 3rd world country, we are growing fast as far as the facilities and comforts concerned. So you might be nothing much to miss if you leave US.

Anyway you make 1-2 year warnup with your home county and there after you will be definitely you will be a part of the Desi stream. (start bargaining in the shops, through the kitchen waste you neighbors compound, enjoying harthal with kids and serials, astonished by the great promises given by your favorite political parties etc etc...)

Young or old, India is still a good place to live or even to move back. It all depends on one's mindset and what we actually want. Different people have different tastes and priorities and it all depends on that.

As for the old people are concerned, there are many many new real-estate projects coming up, purely focussed and aligned for senior citizens needs. It is definitely a welcome thing, not only for people returning from abroad, but also for old parents living alone in India, with children settled abroad. It ensures safety, good company and entertainment for their age.

Yes it is. You will get all the facilities that you need in India as well. Yes, the typical US atmosphere won't be there but Indian-ness is also pretty amazing. :)

Returning to India in old age is definitely possible, provided you have saved enough money to maintain a decent standard of living. Decent in my opinion is to live in a fully paid, self contained apartment, self cooking, access to various shopping and temples etc., using your own transporation and live in a safe clean neighbourhood. But to accomplish the above, apartment may be fully paid with our hard earned dollars, but depending on a servant maid for household help, and a driver..is a misery...No amount of money can get you honest workers in India. The more you pay to keep them happy, they will take you for granted and never ever are dependable.
Now, to avoid all this hazzle, there are a lot of retirement communities where you can buy your own apartment, but pay for other amenities like food, entertainement and a huge amount on a monthly basis to provide all the services mentioned above which includes maid to keep your place clean. Its definitely a carefree life but you get to enjoy your age group, likeminded people and can participate in yoga and such activities, if interested..and most of all your loneliness will be alleviated in a group atmosphere, as every other resident lives there purely to be independent to lead a hazzle free life. This is how I imagine my retirement life in India, if I live long enough..but then with changing political scenario everyday in India, nothing is certain.

You cannot expect any social security as you have never contributed towards it and also, being a non resident of India, you don't even pay taxes, so no question of talking about any freebies..You must be smart enough to save as much as when you earn in $$$ and use the $$ to secure and enjoy your life in your home town to be with your own desis..

The biggest advantage I see in the Indian retirement homes is access to medical and emergency help which is extremely important and which is very difficult if you live on your own in an apartment. Nowadays, neighbours in India are all occupied and hardly anybody is friendly as nobody has any time to socialize..like those days. MONEY is God in India too, given the rising cost of living and other prices..can't blame anybody.
