    Hi,

My doc told me that i may have a c-section as i have a baby in breech position.
I just want to know does it hurt while they are doing the surgery and the women is still awake?
Also does it hurt after the anaesthesia effect is gone after the surgery?
And how much time does the stitches and surgery takes to heal? Will i be able to hold the baby after the surgery? Will i be able to take bath and do baby stuff?

please ladies tell me your experiences if you had any.

    My dear Nandini,
i HAD HAD TWO C-SECTIONS .Never never think of the pains and all. The technology today is so developed that u will never know that u had a surgery ever. And most important!!!!!!!!!!!The moment u hold ur baby u'll forget all ur pains.U will be given local anaesthesia(depends upon the doc) and if u r given local anaesthesia u will be the first person to see ur beautiful child.

they mite give u a spinal anesthesia , so u wil not feel any pain durin the surgery & u can even talk durin the surgery.. after the paed people are done with the baby , u can c ur child may be in 5 mins after they've delivered him.. may b b4 even they're done wid suturing for u:) & u'l b asked to feed ur child like jus 15 mins after u deliverd, the sisters wil hold the baby for u:) or if they give u
a general anaesthesia, u'l not b really awake during the surgery.. but al the same u can feed ur baby like 1/2 to 1 hr l8r.. & for this u surely wil need the sisters., b'coz its a general anest.
post op, pain wil be there but,ur baby s there wid u.. so u'l forget it anyway.. so don worry:) & al the best :thumbsup

    Hi Nandini,

I can't answer your question as I have no experience.

But it's possible to have a natural deliver, even with a breech baby.

Please check out : Spinning Babies and try out the positions they suggest.

Also look out for doctors/mid-wives who have specialized in breech delivery.

If you can avoid a surgery, then I think you should give it your best shot and try all options.

    Good luck!

Hope your baby turns soon - and you have a safe and pleasant birthing experience.

    Hi Nandini,

You have not written , how may weeks you are at. It depends if you still have time, the baby may turn after all. My first one was breech till 38 weeks but decided to turn after that and I delivered him at 41+ weeks.

You may try crawling , it is believed it helps turn the babies.

And if you have to go for a C don't worry. I never had one but from what I heard, with the technology out there now, it is not very complicated. They give you pain medication even after the surgery based on your needs.
But the down time will be certainly more than normal deliveries after you have had the baby. You may not able to fully function for upto 6 weeks.

    All the best!
    regards,

    Hi nandini
spinningbabies.com is a wonderful site. Like they say "Mother's job is to dilate, baby's job is to rotate" :) Please take a look at the site and practise some of the techniques to help your baby turn.
My baby was in posterior position and though I had a normal delivery it was a very long and painful labor. Wish I had come across this site that time , would have definitely done some of the things mentioned there to change baby's position.
Good luck in helping your baby turn :thumbsup

    Thanks for your responses.
I am in 36th week and i have a c-section in the beginning of 39th week.
I am trying accupressure almost everyday and some poses which helps the baby to turn.I have heard that babies do rotate even during the labour. But i hope that she will turn before 39th week.
About breech delivery doc said that c-section is the only way and they can not do external version(medical procedure to turn the babies) because mine is a high risk pregnancy.
Doc said that its risky to go into labour with a breech baby.I am not sure whether i should go for second opinion or not.
I am just scared of the surgery and worried about healing later on because here is nobody to take care of me and the baby except my hubby who have taken leave for about 10 days after the delivery.
I wish she will turn by 38th week.
Ilite did you do anything specific or she just turned on her own?
PinkandBlues,i got the idea of accupressure(moxibustion) from that site only.Thats really a good site. Thanks for sharing it.

I ha d a c-section and I'd say it was ok. Pain meds helped a lot. It was difficult for a week or so but I was able to stop the pain meds 7 days after and move around slowly after that. getting in and out of bed was the most difficult thing but holding a pillow to the tummy when doing so really helped. bathing and all was fine 3 days after the csection (my doc used something called derma glue which is water proof).

The biggest problem I had after the csection was severe constipation - make sure and drink a glass of prune juice / raisin juice everyday after the csection. it greatly helps reduce the constipation problem.

My sis in law had a normal delivery but received stiches due to vaginal tears during delivery. I'd say she had a harder time post delivery than I did because it burned every time she peed! it made her cry so much that I wished she'd had a c-section instead.

hope your baby turns soon! good luck! sleep as much as you can now. once baby is here, no sleeping more than 2-3 hrs at a time for the next several months!

Nandini I dont have any experience of c section but nowadays it is so common Im sure you can get through it easily without any difficulty. Dont know if this will make you feel better but I have 2 friends who are gynecologists and they both went for a planned c-section only because they were afraid of going through labor pains and normal birth. So going by them I would think c-sec is less painful than normal :)
