Well, you can do a mix of both. Some stocks you can buy for the long term if you have reasonable confidence in such companies. There are others you can trade quickly - but you will lose much more in taxes for short term gains. So, mix it up.
I am not Shanthi Madam, but hope can help. With taxable money, and money that you don't need for a long time, you can do long term investing. Buying and holding ETFs (which are tax efficient) is a very good idea. You can structure a portfolio with a good target performance for the long term. Day trading has not worked for the most and it's not worth it. I don't know anyone who has made money consistently in day trading or options trading. In investing time is your best friend.
