That sounds very clear. While I am not a practicing attorney currently, I have some legal know how from a different gig, and From a legal standpoint, that is quite clear and it is a voluntary choice to post. From a legal standpoint, you are required to read the Terms and Conditions and ask questions if something is not clear and you choose to participate or not participate. There is no compulsion here. I don't think there is any legal issue that content is owned by the forum. This is how all internet forums work and it is legally valid to work that way.

Wish it was something like Facebook! After you create a post you have all the rights to delete it even if there are thousands of comments.

I still feel this is not an apt analogy, but its your analogy and I leave it with you.

For a website that talks so high about women and women empowerment and all those buzz words, potential damage to a woman's life should be the reason enough to implement a change.
The way the policy is written very clearly shows that there was never an intent to allow post deletions or account de-activations.
This is an important change and users want it. It should not be too hard to implement this change in code. Gone are the days when the change was implemented in a file and waited for hours for the change to be consumed - am assuming for such high traffic site, the technology behind the screens is latest. How hard is it to implement "Inactive my account" feature !!

If a woman says, the posts I made here are causing damage to my life, please deactivate my account. The expectation is admins would allow de-activation. No?

Did you ever have to de-activate your account and have written to the admin?
I did. I shared that email in my first response. Please see that.

Right. Did you see my email ? Was that not nice enough ?
Is "dont log in" a close enough response to deactivation.
Deactivation removes me or sets the flag to Inactive in the database so that when people search for my username nothing comes up.
Me not logging in wont do the same.
I fail to understand this analogy - please explain how a family member being on phone with a provider is same as a post on relationship forum in IL?

@netflx so you created a id to just post this ? Nobody is arguing about the legality but in general people are not aware unless there is actual problem .

Recently I figured out that even if users disable search based on username in their profile settings you can still bypass and do it . I was able to do it for a user who has disabled all options in their profile .

More than legality, the issue is respect for the post owner's privacy and preference.
For whatever reason if the OP feels that his/her identity has been made known to the family or friends - its very difficult to continue in that relationship.
Posts on IL are like - talking about family problems with the women gathered outside the house around chai time. The only difference is these are all strangers or maybe family members wearing masks.
Haven't we seen so many posts where a wife posts something for which the husband responds in a different posts.
Do you think their lives are going on well after their posts on IL.
Legality or no legality is not the question. Humanity is the point.

I always thought of this. It’s just a simple flag which prevents the data to be retrieved and why is it not implemented :expressionless:

I understand your argument, but there is also the other side. How many such deletions per week or month can a site accommodate and still have content worth visiting over the long term?

If "potential damage to a woman's life" becomes acceptable reason, then, other members will add new reasons and ask for " blogs, stories, serials " to also be allowed for deletion by member. Say I write a fiction story that uses a real life problem as the basis. Now I want that story/serial to be deleted.

Or, I publish same content in multiple sites, and now another site says to me I should get my content removed from other sites. ( just an example). I come and request IL to remove my posts or delete my account. What can be IL's response? "It is not causing damage to your life beyond an inexplicable predilection to starting random threads, so we cannot delete"?

The point is that once one reason is acceptable for deleting posts/threads/account, other reasons also start to crop up.

Implement might not be too hard, though I am more familiar with other forum software, not XenForo. Tougher is the feature design. For starters, if A is requesting delete/deactiviation of account, which means all her messages get deleted, what should be done to posts that quote the deleted posts? In the image below, I have quoted Anusha's post as an example below. If Anusha's original post is deleted, what should be done to my post? What should be the forum action when a member clicks on the up-arrow?

In an ideal online world, yes that could be the expectation. But in reality, implementation of such feature runs into problems such as outlined above. That is what I think based on my honestly limited understanding of the issue.

Any user can choose to not post on one specific site, and participate in a different forum. There are quite a few other Indian forums similar to this. The rules of those sites do still apply in such cases. However, since all participation is voluntary only, and in acceptance of the T&C, there really is not an issue per se.
