I am currently in a confused state. Moving to San Antanio or stay back in Chennai?
My DH is in San Antanio for the past 6 months on H1B. I am working for a reputed organization in Chennai. I am having 2 children, elder one in 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] std and younger one in LKG.
We have some financial commitments too (home loans, etc.)
I am really confused whether to leave my job here and go to US to give an exposure for them about different culture, school and country. Or, to stay back in India and go for a month vacation alone.
If I choose to go to US for couple of years, will it be a challenge, when we come back to India: Finding a school, for the children to cope up in the school etc. What I am thinking is that there English will improve in US and it won’t be a problem to pick up other subjects except II Lang. Am I correct or wrong in this thinking? Please suggest me…
My DH take home is 4500$ to 5000$ in US. If I come there, is this amount sufficient for our family as I cannot work because I am on H4.
Expecting some quick response as I need to take decision quickly.
Thanking you in advance for your reply!

    Hi,

If you do not have any intention to settle in USA then I would definitely stay back in India with my job and visit USA just for vacation.

It is not a good idea to move the kids for just 2 yrs as it takes some time for them to adjust with everything here - academics, weather, social etc. The take home amount is decent but there will not be any savings for our standard of living.

This is my personal opinion being living in USA for past 8.5 yrs and visiting India every year with my kids [7yrs daughter and 2yrs son]. Neither we have any intention to settle here but we are unable to take a decision on going back... for good.

I am not a regular visitor of this forum...just happen to see your post and thought my suggestion would help.

    All the best
    Satya

    Hi Satya,

Thank you very much for taking time and replying to my post.

Many confuse me saying that this is an opportunity for you to stay in US. Not everyone gets this. So you need to utilize this. Blah blah.....So mind is not sticking to one state.

If I do not stay there, will I miss providing some good environment for my children?
I am not thinking anything in favor for me. Just I am thinking only considering my children. If the plan is not going to be beneficial for them, I will change my mind immediately that i should stay back in Chennai.

Before you decide anything permanent, I would suggest take a short holiday and visit. Than you can meet people there and find out more about the life you will have. If you like it, resign, or come back and continue.

OP, H1 is a visa for 6 yrs. Your kids will get exposure to different culture and will enjoy being with different race. San Antonio is not an expensive place like CA, NY . You can live comfortably in that price range and also have savings. Why do you feel you will end up on h4. Come on H4 and find a sponsor for H1. You can also work and your loans back home will be repaid soon. One major reason is kids will be near your hubby and you can live like a family rather that being a holiday or visit family.Your kids are still small and will adapt easily to new environment. Join your hubby. Long distance relationships never work. Later when your hubby joins you he will resent his absence and end up blaming each other. Think and decide. Good Luck.

Many will confuse you. By posting in public forum, even many more will give opinions:)
These are all PERSONAL decisions and PERSONAL choices, so decide based on what you feel and not based on Many or whoever writes nice replies (or talks nice - in real life). Go with YOUR decision.

All said and done, you need to understand its not easy bringing up the kids being alone? Have you got enough moral and family support to help you with the errands? I was in a situation as yours and then finally decided to relocate. I had terrible time juggling work and my young son all alone with a nanny and there were times when people play to their advantage. Unless you have family support think real hard. Take a sabbatical whatever you can, weigh your options and then decide
