I am on a vacation - a boring one from my perspective. But when we are in love - with our spouses, our children, or life itself, we do things for them, boring or not!

So here I am, bored, and I turn the TV on. A documentary about the place I am visiting catches my attention. It is just seven minutes long, and I know I will not learn much and not lose much either. The aerial view of the documentary takes us around the beauty of the place, with houses along the water inlets, canals, and boats cruising peacefully. It all looks stunning. I recognize many places and immediately notice that the pictures are way more stunning, perhaps enhanced. But a first-timer seeing the documentary would be enthralled and completely enticed by the place.

As I watch it, my mouth still agape, all I can think of is if only we could add that color, that enhancement to all our experiences in life. I know, I know, we do it all the time, but mostly with negative experiences. But can we not do that with positive experiences so that we could go around in some wonder and joy? If only we learn the ability to hold onto the beauty of that flower just a second longer; if only we could hold the sight of that bird cruising for a moment longer; if only we could hold the sway of that tree in the wind against the water for a second longer; if only we could hold thee memory of those two dolphins so far away in the ocean for a moment longer; if only we could ride on the back of that mother nature like that little bird on its mother's back for a moment longer d6775406-21e2-4869-8e67-ee2e8d173949~1.jpg if only.......then life would be better! That I almost feel!!

Loved your post, @Srama and appreciate the hidden gems of wisdom there. :)

I may digress now but IMHO, there are some people who sprint through life... dashing from one milestone to another. Then there are those at the other end of the spectrum, that always stop to smell the roses. Most people place themselves somewhere between these two extremes. So pit stops in life- when one halts in their tracks and appreciates the beauty around, makes deeper connections with things and reiterates gratitude for all that one has- is a necessity.

A from the heart snippet, Srama. It seems to have poured out before even the thoughts were fully formed and ruminated over in the mind. : ) This "If only" is an act of noticing nature that’s worth making second nature. : ) Like many small behavior choices, it takes a little practice, but eventually it becomes your default setting. I couldn’t tell you when or how or why it shifted, but somewhere along the way, I realized that I have started noticing the little things. A glint of light on a leaf, the colors under a bird's feathers, the way moss hugs a rock like an island on a map. Just for an extra second or two.

Lately, I’ve even started naming the things I see in nature. My favorite? The cows I meet on the trail. Their eyes are so full of expression. If we stop feeling afraid for just a moment, if we stop scanning around to see if it is a mother and calf pair, if we pause the mind from recalling childhood stories of red color triggering them, : ) they really do look back at you. Quietly. Curiously and with a large dose of disdain. Like they know something. Or like they feel sorry for humans in some way. : ) : )
