    Dear Kalyani & Shanvy, Yes I agree with you :) MS is a legend. IMO great to listen. But while learning I used to sing along, so MS Amma's Shruthi is very low for me as well as most of them. But the rest of theirs goes well with a Shruthi 5.5 or 6 :) then for easy learning of lyrics, I prefer a song in mother tongue first later move to other languages.

    i agree on the shruthi...my daughter says the same...for me language has not been a problem..i can speak and undersand the south indian languages to an extent.

    and you have gopalakrishna bharathi, papanasam sivan, thooran, and many tamil composers..no shortage of tamil krithis..

    Dear IJM
    ,
    I believe music has its own language and the language of the lyrics hardly matters! I know (though only a very few) some carnatic songs, in Tamizh and Telegu. I do not follow any SI language, but did not face much trouble in remembering the lyrics! Yes, I do not remember the literal meaning, but see the overall message of the song in some translation. That is sufficient to get the bhava of the song!

    And of course, I need to listen to the song a thousand time :hide: to get it right (as much as I can!)

    Just in love with Carnatic music!
