I salute these women who have chosen a path where men fear to tread. The indomitable courage shown by them is a thrilling example of what any one can achieve inspite of personal consequences, obstacles, dangers and pressures.”Fraility thy name is woman”is what we have been told and believed. This is no longer valid. We idolised them as mothers, adored them as sisters, loved them as wives but it is time now to hail them for their achievemants.

A laudable career that women have! a great list indeed!

Leave alone the adventurous jobs.Very rarely we see women conducting marriage rituals.Last week it was a topic in many many of the news papers that a lady was photographed conducting a Hindu marriage reciting the Vivaha mantras and explaining meanings therefor.
In 1996 my sister's daughter( iyer community) got wedded to a boy belonging to Salem Gounder community. I was surprised to see that the marriage rituals were conducted only by a group of women .All the verses were in chaste Tamil .The meaning was almost the same as that of sapthapadhi. They recited or rather sang the verses in a peculiar metre ,one woman starting and others followed., as in Bhajans.
There was no oonjal ceremony but there was a corresponding event of warding evil eyes and the verses for removing of evil eyes caught everybody's attention.

No doubt, women shine in whichever walk of life they choose since they have have better focus and sense of determination.

It is patience, focus and SELF ESTEEM which drive women to excel in whatever they are doing.Success is never final: failure is never fatal:it is courage that counts-Winston Churchill said. The quote is amply vindicated by the case studies I have presented.

Thanks for the valuable addition to the list of women in the process of overtaking men in their territory. In less adventurous fields women employees equal men.Such representation is necessary for women representing around 50% of the population.

    Dear SLN Sir,

India has many women who played an extraordinary role in their fields whether it is politics or science or academic or entertainment or sports or service to humanity. But until one-half of the workforce in India is filled with women, the mission to promote women should continue. There is one politician in the US from a minority community who kept providing statistical data about how the women in the US are underpaid when compared to men and she was getting ready to bring in legislation to prevent companies from paying different pay for a similar job description. We are living in ages when women have successfully reached the international space station and was instrumental in conducting space programs. Women CEOs have successfully led large corporations as well.

    Dear Viswa,
I am closely following the fight for equal pay for women in the US.The priorities in India are different.Safety and security both at office and while commuting ,working in home town etc and girls are prepared to sacrifice salary.Even good matches are sacrificed in the interest of safety. It all depends on one's goals and girls are in the driving seat.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
    Regards.SLN
